Chapter 323 The Broken Checkpoint
Chapter 323 The Broken Checkpoint
Natalie’s POV
The silver fog had thickened by the time we descended from the mountain passes.
Three armored land liners cut through it in formation.
Inside the secondary transport, everything had settled into an unnatural stillness.

Sean sat upright in his security harness, eyes fixed on the navigation matrix as though he could memerize the entire terrain from memory alone. His small fingers traced the vector lines.
Beside him, Susie had drifted back into Ruby’s lap, half–asleep again, curls spilling across face.
Ruby held her without effort, one hand resting lightly at her back, gaze fixed forward through the fog as if she continued rubbing Susie’s back.
I leaned back into the seat, watching the rear display flicker between route feeds and terrain scans.
Amber flashed across the navigation console, but the convoy didn’t stop.
A synthetic voice followed immediately, calm and detached.
“External chokepoint detected. Two leagues ahead… Civil enforcement barrier deployed across southern bypass route. Emergency intervention token registered to Luke Corporation.”
Silence tightened inside the cabin.
My jaw set slowly as Nyx stirred beneath my ribs, not fully rising, but lifting her head in quiet awareness.
“Jensen,” I said softly.
“He’s using council law to freeze movement.”
Beside me, Baron didn’t react.
His hand stayed steady on the wheel, but the air inside the cabin shifted anyway.
“He still believes he can stop us,” Baron said evenly, his voice low and composed.
His amber gaze didn’t leave the road, “he still believes the world bends for him.”
A pause.
“It doesn’t.”
His wrist moved once.
A single connection opened.
Flynn’s voice came through the comms instantly from the lead transport.

Contact confirmed ahead,” he reported. “Civil enforcement blockade…Sic vehicles. Eight officers… Standard issue only… No silver–laced weapons.”
A brief exhale followed, almost amused.
“Baron’s voice dropped.
“Do not slow the convoy.”
“Understood,” Flynn replied. “We’re going through it.”
The line cut.
Nyx shifted again inside me, but this time it wasn’t warning.
It was anticipation.
The fog thinned slowly as we rounded the valley bend.
And then it revealed itself.
A checkpoint that had no right existing on this road.
Six white enforcement sedans formed a staggered blockade across all lanes. Blue lights pulsed weakly through the fog like dying signals trying to stay alive.
A steel spike strip cut across the asphalt.
Eight officers stood behind it.
And behind them–
A man in a dark corporate coat, clutching a stack of digital injunction sheets like they could still bend reality if held tightly enough.
Caleb.
Jensen’s messenger.
Even before we fully reached them, I could feel it.
The first transport pushed forward through the fog like a closing blade, massive and unstoppable, swallowing distance with pure momentum.
Only then did the officers realize what was happening.
One stepped back.
Then another.
And whatever courage they had arrived with collapsed.
Caleb stepped forward quickly, raising his hand.
“This is a sanctioned emergency intervention order!” he shouted, voice cracking under pressure. “By authority of the Southern

High Council, this convoy is legally frozen!”
The words hung in the ai
The lead transport reached the final stretch before the spike strip.
And stopped.
Perfectly.
Controlled down to precision–two inches of space between reinforced steel and human fear.
The silence that followed was definite.
Then Flynn stepped out.
Boots hit asphalt with slow certainty, and every officer instinctively lowered their gaze without realizing they had done it.
Flynn didn’t look at the vehicles.
He looked at them.
“Who authorized this chokepoint?” he asked quietly.
No one answered fast enough.
Caleb tried anyway.
Hands shaking violently as he lifted the injunction sheets higher.
“This is lawful enforcement – the Nightfang pack holds registry authority over Natalie Stone’s design assets – this is a legal
detention route…”
The sentence broke apart.
Because Baron opened his door.
And the air changed.
He stepped out slowly.
Black tactical shirt. Sleeves rolled. Scars exposed.
Two officers dropped instantly to their knees,
Baron didn’t look at them.
He walked past them like they were irrelevant data points and stopped in front of the lead officer.
“You’re standing on a civil blockade issued through a corrupted registry chain,” he said calmly.
The officer swallowed hard.
“… this is a council matter-

Baron finally tooked at him.
Just once.
And the man stopped breathing mid–sentence.
Baron lifted his wrist.
One tap.
That was all.

Every badge flickered.
Every authorization collapsed.
The convoy radios stayed quiet but the message still arrived.
Caleb’s face emptied completely.
