“It’s not that. I can cover whatever you order, I just don’t like waste.

“If you can’t finish it, you’re taking the rest home. No throwing perfectly good food away,” Arabella reminded him, a slight curve on her lips.
Colton immediately took a mock–inhale and grinned. “Actually, I wasn’t just ordering for myself. I got enough for you too.
He then set down the menu and told the server, “Just bring half–portions of everything I mentioned.”
“Right away, sir.”
Arabella glanced at him. “Now, about that good news?”
“We’ve successfully liquidated our position and withdrawn all capital from the Macdonald family ventures.” Colton looked thoroughly pleased with himself.
“Well done. I knew I could count on you.” Arabella had full confidence in Colton’s capabilities.
“But one thing puzzles me–the Macdonald family is bankrupt. How did you manage to recoup the funds?” Arabella asked, frowning slightly.
“The Macdonalds themselves are tapped out, but over the years, the Clark family siphoned off plenty of benefits from them. I went straight to those ingrates and… persuaded them to return all the advantages they’d gained over the years.” Colton reported matter- of–factly.
“Does the Clark family even have that kind of capital?” Arabella found it hard to believe.
“Exactly! I didn’t expect them to have embezzled such a significant amount either. I had to see the bank statements to believe it.” Colton’s expression mirrored her disbelief.
Arabella let out a cold laugh. “Seems I underestimated the Clark family’s greed.”
She never would have thought a middling family like the Clarks had such an, appetite.
It seemed Freya and her brother had been operating a nice little side scheme for years.
She truly was a traitor to her own family.
Ethan had been right to financially dismantle the Macdonald holdings.
Suddenly, Arabella thought of Carter. Did he know about the Clark family’s embezzlement?
She looked at Colton. “Does Carter know the Clarks were pilfering Macdonald assets?”
“He’s probably still in the dark,” Colton replied.
“Getting an idea?” Colton picked up on her thoughtful tone.
Arabella’s lips curved slightly. “What do you think would happen if Carter found out?”
“I think it’d make for some high–quality drama.” A meaningful smile spread across Colton’s face.

“So you know what to do?” Arabella shot him a look.
He nodded immediately in understanding. “Got it. Leave this part to me.
“I guarantee you’ll have a front–row seat to the show.”
“Good.” Arabella picked up her water glass and clinked it lightly against his.
She was already looking forward to the unfolding spectacle.
Meanwhile, Matthew happened to walk into the restaurant.
As Arabella set down her glass, she caught sight of him out of the corner of her eye.
Strange, what’s he doing here?
Seeing Matthew start to move in her general direction, Arabella quickly raised the menu to shield her face.
Colton was confused by her sudden move.
“Hey, what’s with the stealth mode?”
“Shh, quiet,” Arabella whispered.
Then she motioned for him to hide his face as well.
Catching on, Colton quickly grabbed a napkin and held it up casually.
Arabella must have spotted someone she didn’t want to run into.

Matthew didn’t notice Arabella at all. He only walked a few steps toward her section before turning and heading to a secluded booth on the other side of the dining room.
After a moment of silence, with no footsteps approaching, Arabella cautiously lowered the menu to peek through the gap between two potted plants.
So Matthew hadn’t come her way–he’d gone to the opposite side.
She put the menu down. “Alright, coast is clear.”
Hearing her, Colton slowly lowered the napkin.
“What was that about? Someone you know?” Colton asked, intrigued.
“Matthew.” Arabella let out a quiet sigh of relief.
“Matthew? What’s he doing here?” Colton glanced over his shoulder with surprise.
“No idea. He’s already seated over there.
“Looks like I can’t stay and finish this meal with you.”
“What? You’re ditching me?” Colton looked at her, feigning hurt.
