She slowed down.
The waterfall dropped thirty feet above her. The water hit the pool and churned everywhere. The mist came off it in waves. Cold and fine and never stopping.
She stopped at the base of the waterfall.
She lifted her face and closed her eyes.
The mist landed on her skin and she laughed because she couldn’t help it.
***
Nicholas crossed the pool without thinking about it.
He was on the far bank one moment. Then he was moving. He didn’t stop it or question it. His body went where she was.
She was laughing.
Standing in the mist at the edge of the waterfall with her face lifted and her eyes closed.
He had watched women perform joy before. Bright laughter to get his attention. Soft smiles to seem genuine. Everything shaped for effect, for him.
But this was not for him, because she didn’t even know he was coming.
She was laughing because something in her needed to.
He stopped three feet away from her and she opened her eyes and found him standing very close to her.
She didn’t act surprised at all and she didn’t pull back either. She just looked at him.
Nicholas watched her look at him.
Not the Alpha. Not the man who had put his hands around her throat less than seventy two hours ago, and definitely not the one who had marked her without her consent.
Just him.
Nicholas.
She was looking at him like she was trying to read something she almost knew.
He reached out, His hand cupped the side of her face. His fingers pushed the wet hair back from her cheek.
Her breath caught and he heard it.
His thumb traced the edge of her jaw and her eyes were very dark.
The waterfall came down around them. The mist was everywhere. She was looking at his mouth. Then back up at his eyes. The space between them because almost non-existent.
His hand curved around her jaw and tilted her face up.
Her lips parted slightly.
He could feel her breath on his face, the mark on her throat pulled at him. Kael pushed forward and literally shouting " Yes this, yes now. yes."
He didn’t stop the wolf from ranting.
Her black eyes were watching him.
Then he kissed her, his hand fisted in her wet hair and he pulled her head back and kissed her so hard that Lilith nearly stopped breathing.
Her hands flew to his chest, grabbing on for support because her knees decided to stop holding her weight at that same embarrassing moment.
He pulled back just enough to look at her face.
His silver eyes were black at the center. The waterfall roaring behind them. Nicholas Blackwood looking at her like he had been fighting not to do this for days.
"Tell me you want this," he said. "Not the heat. Not the bond. You."
