Nicholas went very still. "What did she tell you."

Lilith’s hands were shaking now and she pressed them flat against his chest to steady herself. "She said Mike is now the record keeper at Shadowmere Pack now. That he became the keeper not long after i left Shadowmare. That he has full access to all the pack archives. All the information about my father."

Nicholas’s expression did not change but she felt something shift in him, felt the air in the room go heavier.

"She thinks the timing is suspicious," Lilith continued, her voice barely above a whisper. "She thinks... she thinks he might be involved."

"Mike? Who is Mike" Nicholas said slowly.

"He’s is....he is my ex-boyfriend" she replied, her voice shaking.

"Your ex-boyfriend?" he asked.

"Yes." she replied.

Then Nicholas went quiet.

Lilith turned slightly on his lap to look at his face and immediately wished she had not. His expression was carefully controlled, too controlled, his jaw tight and his eyes cold in a way that made her stomach drop.

"Are you angry?" she whispered.

Nicholas looked at her for a long moment and then said in a voice that was far too calm, "So you’re telling me that the boy you were fucking before me is possibly the reason your father’s name is being dragged through the mud."

"No!" Lilith said quickly. "We don’t know for sure if it’s him. Wren just mentioned it and I wanted to tell you in case it helps with the investigation...."

"Lilith." His voice cut through her rambling and she stopped. "Answer the question.

"Yes, but..."

"Did you fuck him."

Her breath caught. "Nicholas..."

"Did you." His hand on her waist tightened, not painfully but firmly, holding her in place. "Yes or no."

"Yes," she whispered. "Before the contract. Before I ever met you. Before the bond..."

"How many times." he asked.

"What?" she asked, looking at his face.

"How many times did he fuck you, Lilith."

She stared at him, her heart pounding. "I don’t... I don’t know. We were together for...."

"A very long time?" Nicholas’s voice was still calm but there was something dangerous underneath it now, something sharp and cold and possessive. "A year?"

"Almost three years," she said quietly.

"And he fucked you during that time." Nicholas asked, his voice already changing pitch.

"Yes." she replied.

"In your bed."

"Nicholas..."

"Answer me." he commanded.

"Yes," she whispered. "In my bed. In his. I don’t know why this matters..."

"It matters," he said, his voice dropping lower, "because that pussy belongs to me now. To me and my brothers. And I do not like knowing that someone else had it first."

Lilith felt heat flood her face and she tried to pull back but his arm around her waist tightened, holding her against him. "I can’t change the past...."
