Margaret offered a faint smile. “You’re the one who called me a monster. I simply agreed, yet now you claim I’m talking nonsense. How ridiculous.”

She paused briefly, then spoke in a calm tone. “Besides, I learned every trick from you. You’ve spent your whole life plotting and scheming. It is only my turn now.”

“You’ve been plotting against me all along,” Stella snapped, her lips trembling with rage. “First, you ruined my hair and left me forced to wear a wig, then you framed me with false accusations. Your heart is cold and calculating beyond measure.”

“Enjoy your petty victory for now,” Stella shouted. “It won’t last. Do you truly think this changes Father’s opinion of me? Or that Jasper will side with you forever?

“Father will always favor me above everyone else. I am the future Crown Princess–the most respected lady of the Prime Minister’s Estate. Jasper only feels momentary confusion toward you, and he will soon see the truth clearly. Even Crown Prince Christopher, along with everyone you once cared about, will never spare you a second glance.

“You think beating me once means you can win against me for good? I will always stand in your way. No one will ever change their minds about you. I will never let you rise above me. Margaret, you are destined to live beneath me, forever stuck in second place.”

Stella’s voice rose with wild emotion, thick veins standing out on her forehead.

Margaret merely lifted an eyebrow, completely unshaken. “Finished? If you’re done ranting, I’m heading back to my quarters to sleep.”

“Don’t act indifferent,” Stella shouted sharply. “I know this cuts deep. You crave the affection they give me. You staged this whole scene just to steal Jasper’s kindness. You will never break the harsh judgments everyone holds of you.”

Margaret turned to leave without a single reaction, and Stella’s anger flared even hotter.

“Do you think Crown Prince Christopher will change how he sees you once he learns the truth?” Stella called after her. “Let me tell you plainly–even if he knows you’re the one who saved him, he will still hate you. You will never compare to me. No scheme you devise will ever beat me,”

Margaret finally froze in her tracks.

A smug look crossed Stella’s face. She stepped forward slowly. “So you do care about Crown Prince Christopher after all. Stop pretending you don’t. You will never defeat me, Margaret-”

Her words died short.

A sharp slap struck her cheek hard, sending Stella stumbling backward several steps. Her eyes widened in shock and fear. “How dare you hit me?”

“Relax, no need to misunderstand,” Margaret said flatly. “I never wanted Father’s favor, and I couldn’t care less about what Jasper thinks of me. As for that worthless prince, I dumped him long ago and never looked back. I only stopped because my special healing blends are rare and valuable—I won’t let them go to waste

She stepped forward twice more and landed two more harsh slaps across Stella’s face.

Stella screamed in terror, “Stop! Don’t touch me!”

Her shrill cries echoed through the small courtyard. She crumpled to the ground moments later.

All the regular servants had been sent away when Timothy left. Only Nadia rushed out from the hall, charging straight for Margaret in a blind rage. “You cruel madwoman! Let her go!”

Margaret stepped aside at the last second to dodge her attack.

Nadia crashed directly onto Stella, and the two of them tangled together in a messy heap on the stone ground.

“I’ll kill you, Margaret!” Stella shrieked.

Margaret brushed dust off her hands. “I’m ready.”

She turned and walked away without another word.

Margaret had not gone far when she spotted Jasper hurrying toward her, his face tight with worry.

“Margaret, what happened now?” Jasper asked quickly. “I heard Stella screaming from far away–are you two fighting again?”

“Nothing serious,” Margaret replied in a casual, unconcerned tone. “The courtyard steps by the entrance are too high. She tripped and fell on her way out.”

Jasper sighed softly and pressed a small bundle of glass jars into her hands. “These are high–quality healing salves. You know basic healing arts, so you’ll know how to use them. I’m going to check on Stella now. It’s late, so head back to your quarters and rest.”

Margaret nodded and prepared to leave when Jasper spoke up once more, “Father has always been stern. He doesn’t play favorites. Stella is set to become Crown Princess, and you understand how things must work for the family’s reputation, right?”

“I know Father cares deeply about the family name,” Margaret answered calmly. “That’s why he sent all the servants away the second our quarrel broke out. Tell him not to worry. This is only a small dispute between us. We won’t bring shame to the family.”
