Chapter 159 Why Did You Turn Him Down?

Margaret frowned.

If he isn’t a royal prince, how can he live deep inside the palace? Heavy guards posted outside his gates make the whole ituation extremely odd.

Theodore glanced at her with a hint of confusion. “You don’t know who he is?”

Margaret stared at him blankly.

Am I supposed to know?

Theodore narrowed his eyes slightly. “Vincent is the third prince of Vaelcloud. He was sent to our realm hree years ago to keep the peace between the two kingdoms. He will be allowed to return to Vaelcloud in another year.”

The moment his words sank in, a flood of memories rushed into Margaret’s mind.

That’s right, I do remember this now.

Border skirmishes broke out constantly three years ago. Theodore led the army to fight them off and never lost a single battle.

Northpoint and Vaelcloud shared close border territories, which kept sparking wars time and again. After the last big battle three years ago, Vaelcloud sued for peace voluntarily and sent Vincent to Northpoint as a royal hostage.

Back then, she had heard rumors that Vincent was impossibly handsome, almost otherworldly. Word even said he came to Northpoint as a hostage of his own free will.

A high–ranking prince choosing to surrender himself to an enemy kingdom–he may be beautiful to look at, but he doesn’t seem all that clever.

Feeling Theodore’s gaze fixed on her, Margaret hurried to say, “I do know about it. I just blanked out for a second. I remembered Vaelcloud sent one of their princes here as a hostage, but I completely forgot his

name…”

That was far too close a call.

Everyone in the kingdom knows this story, and I nearly acted as if I’d never heard of it at all.

No wonder Theodore’s looking at me with such obvious suspicion.

Theodore asked out of the blue, “Is he very handsome?”

Margaret froze for a second, then laughed awkwardly. “Yes, he’s incredibly good–looking. I’ve never seen such striking features before–he looks just like an elf, and his eyes are so large, too.”

She only meant to change the subject.

Yet she failed to notice Theodore’s expression darkening more and more by the second.

Theodore said quietly, “No wonder.”

Margaret didn’t catch the underlying tone in his voice. “No wonder what?”

Theodore replied plainly, “You couldn’t stop staring at him.”

Margaret still missed the quiet edge in his words and nodded. “Anyone can’t help glancing a little longer when they see someone good–looking.”

Theodore’s face turned completely cold. He suddenly quickened his pace and strode forward without another word.

Margaret hurried to keep up with him. “Why are you walking so fast all of a sudden?”

Theodore said shortly, “Head back to the manor.”

Margaret fell into silent confusion.

His tone turned so cold all at once. He’s acting so strange.

Inside the carriage on the ride back, Theodore kept his eyes closed and stayed quiet the whole time.

Margaret didn’t dare disturb him. She sat quietly in the corner, gazing out the window at the passing scenery every now and then.

Occasionally, she would sneak a glance at Theodore.

I can’t deny it–he’s truly an exceptional man.

Tall, handsome, wealthy, with a good heart and sound judgment. He’s always treated me well, too.

It’s just a shame he already has someone he cares for.

It must be the daughter from General Hickman’s Estate.

That pearl bracelet I saw before must have belonged to her.

Margaret quickly shook off her wandering thoughts.

Why do I keep overthinking this?

He’s the noble Prince Theodore. Even if he had no one in his heart, we’d never belong to the same world anyway.
