Rejected by the Crown Prince? I Married His Uncle
Chapter 267 An Uninvited Guest
“Who’s there?”
A frown creased Margaret’s brow as her gaze shot toward the window.
Silhouetted against the twilight was a figure in white robes, a mask obscuring his face. “Miss, you’ve been absent from the clinic these past days. I waited, but my patience wore thin. So I came to find you,” the man said, his voice calm.
That familiar tone, that same mask–Margaret recognized him at once.
Keith.
What is he doing here?
Letting out a soft breath, she settled back into her chair by the desk. “I rarely go there these days.”
From beyond the door, Winter’s voice drifted in. “Ms. Campbell? Did you call for me?”
“No. It’s late–you should rest,” Margaret replied.
“Okay.”
Once Winter’s footsteps faded, Margaret lit the oil lamp herself. Its warm glow filled the room.
Keith remained perched on the windowsill, his unmasked eyes resting quietly on her.
“Seeing you safe puts my mind at ease,” he said.
“What could possibly happen to me?” she replied coolly.
After a slight pause, she added, “Where did you lead my shadow guard?”
A faint smile touched his lips. “So that was your shadow guard. He seemed to be nursing an old injury. I gave him something to help him sleep–he’s dozing on the roof now.”
At his words, Margaret was speechless.
His words were gentle, almost apologetic. “Miss, don’t worry, he won’t notice. I know better than to overstep boundaries. I’ll stay by the window.
“I wouldn’t intrude like this if the lingering poison didn’t trouble me. I hope you won’t hold it against me.”

“Come here,” she said.
Keith seemed taken aback by the invitation but obeyed, slipping inside and approaching her slowly.
Margaret took his wrist, her fingers pressing lightly against his pulse. Her expression was one of focused concentration.
Just watching her, Keith felt a faint warmth rise to his cheeks. “Miss, those who try to harm someone as wonderful as you don’t deserve mercy.”
A hint of amusement crossed Margaret’s face. “Wonderful? That’s a first.”
“My words fail me.”
Releasing his hand, she stood. “You’re recovering better than I expected. No need for acupuncture–just a few more doses of medicine should do.”
Moving to a small writing desk in the corner, she pulled out a blank sheet of paper and began writing a prescription with careful strokes.
Keith drifted closer, his eyes drifting over the stacks of paper covering the desk. “Miss, you enjoy writing?”
After a quick glance at him, she said, “I used to practice often. Someone once told me my handwriting was poor, so I practiced daily for a time. But it’s been a while since I bothered. I never cleared these away–they’ve just been sitting here.”
It was the truth.
The original Margaret had adored Christopher, and when he criticized her penmanship, she’d practiced relentlessly, sheet after sheet piling up.
After entering this world, Margaret hadn’t discarded them–first out of caution, then simply because there was no need. They remained in the corner, forgotten.
Keith picked up the topmost sheet, scanned it briefly, and set it back down without comment.
Once the prescription was finished, Margaret handed it to him. “Take this. Remember–no using your Core Vitality. Rest for a few days, and you should make a full recovery.”
He accepted the paper, tucking it carefully inside his robe as though it were something precious. “My thanks, miss.”
“No need for formalities. Just use my name.”
“Margaret?” he ventured.

She shot him a look.
A soft laugh escaped him. “Margaret it is, then.”
“As you wish. Now, it’s late. You should go,” she said flatly.
Keith murmured, warmth lingering in his tone, “Even your dismissals are gentle. Exactly as I imagined–truly kindhearted.
“I didn’t bring any coins for payment, but I can’t accept this without offering something in return. Is there anything you’d like? If it’s within my power, I’ll get it for you.”
Tired from the long sleep, Margaret yawned. “I lack for nothing. Even if this wing is quiet, it’s still part of the Prime Minister’s Estate. You should leave before someone notices.”
“Then let me offer you information instead. Something you’ll find interesting,” Keith said, his voice lowering.
Margaret’s expression shifted. “Go on.”
He took two steps closer, leaning in to whisper a few concise sentences near her ear.
She drew back slightly, studying him. “You’re certain?”
“Absolutely.”
“How could you possibly know such a thing?” she asked.
“I have my sources. Normally, I wouldn’t pay attention to others‘ affairs… but since this concerns you, I made some inquiries,” Keith said.
