Chapter 274 The Proposal
With just two simple words, “I’m here to propose.” Theodore managed to stun everyone present into silence.
He walked toward Margaret without haste, taking her hand gently as he asked, “Didn’t you tell your family I was coming to ask for your hand?”
Margaret was left utterly speechless.
He’s serious… and so sudden.
ول
Christopher’s fists clenched until his knuckles cracked. Through gritted teeth, he demanded, “I knew there was something going on between you two. Just how far has this gone behind my back?”
Overcome with rage, he abandoned all pretense of courtesy, glaring at their joined hands. “Margaret, I underestimated you. To think you’d catch Uncle Theodore’s eye. Were you already involved with him? Ou engagement was called off not long ago, and now you’re already at the point of marriage? When you swore you loved me, was your heart already wandering elsewhere?”
A sharp blow landed squarely across Christopher’s face.
Shock widened his eyes, mirrored by Norma’s expression.
Theodore merely flexed his wrist casually. “If your head is still muddled, I can help you wake up, Prince Christopher.”
Christopher pressed a hand to his stinging cheek, his fury barely contained. “Why are you slapping me?” Norma finally spoke up, “Theodore, that was entirely uncalled for. In front of everyone, how could you- “You’re aware we’re in public, Norma. I am his uncle. What right does he have to question my affairs? Moreover, Margie is my betrothed. He has no business speaking about her so carelessly.
Cutting her off, Theodore shot Christopher a cold glance. “I’ve no interest in whatever past you shared with my future wife. Her future belongs to me alone. You are not worthy of her.”
Christopher’s temper snapped. “Uncle Theodore, nothing is settled yet! How can you call her your betrothed? Since you brought up our past, you must know she and I were meant for each other. Not just before, but even recently–we held each other, we kissed. Everything that should or shouldn’t have happened, did. She’s already mine. Does that not disgust you?”
Another blow landed, this time harder.
Norma quickly intervened. “Christopher, hold your tongue!”
“I’m speaking the truth! Uncle Theodore knows it too, doesn’t he? Is that why he’s so angry? Because he can’t accept the facts?” Christopher shot back, teeth clenched.
“If you cannot control your tongue, I will do it for you.” Theodore’s gaze turned murderous.
Knowing his temperament, Norma stepped between them. “Theodore, Christopher hasn’t been himself

Tately. He’s endured many shocks. Please disregard his words. Since today is your happy occasion, we shall not intrude further.”
She turned, fixing her son with a stern look.
Christopher’s face flushed bright red, marked by the stark imprint of the slap. “Mother! We came to bring Margaret to the palace!”
Norma took a deep breath. “We’ll discuss it another day.”
“Why wait? I don’t know why you wish to summon my betrothed to the palace, but as she is mine, I’ll speak for her. Until we are wed, she answers only to me. I forbid her from entering the palace, and I expect Prince Christopher to cease his visits. I trust that’s understood,” Theodore interjected coolly.
Norma’s lips twitched, her expression strained. “You misunderstand, Theodore. I invited Ms. Campbell to serve as a companion for Noelle-”
“She’s unavailable.” Theodore dismissed her curtly before turning his attention back to Margaret, his voice softening. “You were wronged. Why didn’t you come to me?”
Margaret stared into his eyes, too stunned to reply.
Christopher wasn’t finished. “You’re quick to call her your betrothed, Uncle, but Mr. Campbell isn’t even here. Marriage requires parental consent. Without his approval, your proposal means nothing!”
Theodore scoffed. “Whether Mr. Campbell agrees is none of your concern.”
“Even if he does, what about her?” Christopher pressed, his fists clenched tightly.
His gaze locked onto Margaret, fierce and unyielding. “Margaret, say it plainly, here before everyone. Do you still have feelings for me? Will you accept his proposal?”
Theodore’s anger flared. “My betrothed-”
“Do you dare let her answer, Uncle?” Christopher shouted over him, eyes burning into Margaret. “Tell us. Do you want him?”
