Before they knew it, the carriage had arrived at the Ducal Palace.
A faint smile graced Theodore’s lips. Those who knew him well could sense the profound joy stirring within.
Hand in hand, he and Margaret descended from the carriage.
But the moment her feet touched the ground, Margaret turned and climbed back inside. “I can’t stay. I have to go back.”
Theodore’s smile faded slightly. “Why?”
He added, “I’ve found a place with breathtaking scenery. I hoped to show it to you after your treatment.”
‘But you brought so many engagement gifts. It doesn’t sit right with me, leaving all those treasures behind at the Prime Minister’s Estate. Should I send someone to fetch them?” Margaret asked, her tone utterly serious.
Theodore replied calmly, “I’ll have someone instruct the Prime Minister. No one is to touch your gifts. They belong to you alone-”
‘Even if they don’t touch them openly, they’ll surely sneak around behind our backs. It’s better to have hem brought back!” she said.
Margaret couldn’t help her suspicion. She simply didn’t consider anyone at the Prime Minister’s Estate as Family and had no intention of letting them benefit in the slightest.
Yet Theodore insisted, “Those are engagement gifts. It isn’t customary to take them back.”
“Then I should return myself. I need to see everything safely stored in my storeroom before I can rest easy…”
Truthfully, she longed to stash everything into her secret space. Only there would her mind be truly at
peace.
Seeing her determined stance, Theodore finally relented. “Very well. Do what makes you happy.”
Cyan, standing nearby, interjected softly, “Ms. Campbell, His Highness‘ medicine is ready. Perhaps you could administer his acupuncture before returning?”

With that, he bowed his head slightly,
Margaret didn’t refuse.
But by the time the treatment was complete, evening had fallen.

Her thoughts consumed by the pile of gifs, Margaret hurried back to the Prime Minister’s Estate as soon as she was done.
To her surprise, the estate was ablaze with light. Servants bustled about, busy as if preparing for a grand feast
Passing through the main hall, she found the once carpeted floor now bare. The engagement gifts had vanished, replaced by rows of tables surrounded by unfamiliar faces chatting and laughing.
Noticing Margaret, several guests glanced her way with warm, curious smiles.
She paid them no mind and swiftly retreated to her own courtyard.
Winter greeted her cheerfully. “Ms. Campbell, you’re back! I thought you’d be staying at the Ducal Palace again tonight.
“Who could have imagined Prince Theodore would propose? It’s wonderful! You’ve finally found a good man. Compared to the fickle Prince Christopher, Prince Theodore is clearly far superior. I always knew you wouldn’t linger in an ambiguous situation. It’s just a surprise that he gave you your due status so quickly. Now, let’s see who dares pick on you again.”
Margaret scanned the empty courtyard. “Where are all the engagement gifts?”
“Mr. Campbell took charge of them. It’s customary for parents to handle engagement gifts…” Winter began.
“Where are they?” Margaret interrupted before Winter could finish.
Winter scratched her head. “Probably in the storerooms. Why do you ask?”
“Prince Theodore made it clear those gifts were for me alone. should be the one receiving them.”
With that, Margaret strode out of the courtyard.

Winter hurried after her. “Ms. Campbell, today is your happy day! Don’t fuss over such formalities. Mr. Campbell is your father. It’s perfectly norinal for him to accept the gifts. When you marry, he’ll provide a generous gift. Please don’t go confronting him over this…”
As Margaret quickened her pace, Winter broke into a light jog to keep up. “After hearing about Prince Theodore’s proposal, Mr. Campbell rushed back immediately. Overjoyed, he decided to host a banquet to celebrate your engagement. The estate is already filled with guests, mostly his relatives and friends, many of them highly placed officials. You really shouldn’t—”
“Don’t worry. I’m not looking for him.” Margaret sighed, a tad exasperated by her maid’s chattering.
Winter quietly relaxed, only to tense again when she realized they had reached the storeroom entrance.
“Ms. Campbell-” she started, her voice edged with concern.

“Hush. Ir just going to take a look.” Margaret shot her a brief, dismissive glance before slipping quietly
into the storeroom.
The Prime Minister’s Estate buzzed with activity, illuminated by countless lanterns. Guards stood watch at both the front and rear gates.
Inside the storeroom, crate upon crate of engagement gifts were stacked high. Guards patrolled the area at regular intervals, but recognizing Margaret, none thought twice about her presence there.
