Chapter 287 Explain
“Is his injury serious” Margaret asked.

Cyan opened her mouth to reply, but Myrna cut in first. “He already said it was a minor wound from the start. Someone’s trying awfully hard to make a show of concern, isn’t she?”
She trailed off, putting on an act of catching herself. “Besides, a real man isn’t as delicate as some young ladies.”
A cold glare from Margaret met her. “I don’t recall asking for your opirtion, Ms. Hickman.”
Myrna gave a short, humorless laugh. “There you go again. The moment I speak, you’re on my case. Is that really necessary?”
“Ms. Hickman, please don’t misunderstand. Ms. Campbell is just straightforward by nature. She’s worried about His Highness and doesn’t mean any offense toward you,” Cyan interjected hastily.
Margaret felt a surge of frustration. If not for all the watching eyes, she’d have gladly found a way to shut this madwoman up for good. Every word out of her mouth was pure poison.
Bothering to engage seemed pointless. “If I’m to stay, then take me to see the Duke,” she said, ignoring Myrna.
Cyan nodded and led the way.
Myrna, however, promptly followed. “I have something to discuss with Theodore as well.”
They reached Theodore’s private chambers moments later.
Myrna pushed ahead, squeezing through the door first. “Theodore, you’ll never guess what happened!” she chirped, her tone light and amused.
Margaret entered behind her to find Theodore seated at a table, his expression grim. He paid Myrna no mind, his gaze fixing on Cyan at the rear. “Did you find it?”
Cyan shook her head. “No, Your Highness. But the main gates are sealed. No one can leave. The bracelet was there not long ago. Even if it was stolen, the thief couldn’t have gotten it out yet. It must still be somewhere in the mansion.”
Theodore gave a slight nod. Finally, his eyes shifted to Margaret, but before he could speak, Myrna plopped herself down directly opposite him, blocking his view. She grinned. “It’s about Ms. Campbell.”
Margaret’s brow furrowed. So this is how the woman acts even in Theodore’s presence.
Their relationship is clearly far closer than I’ve imagined.
“What is it?” Theodore’s voice was cold.
Myrna chuckled, throwing a glance back at Margaret. “Someone seems to be having a fit of jealousy. While you were out earlier, she came looking for you and found me here instead. First thing she asked was if I liked you! Want to know what I said?”

She didn’t wait for an answer. “I said, ‘Of course I like you! But Theodore, you know me. My feelings for you have always gone beyond that silly romantic stuff. What we have is so much more than just ‘like’ right?”
For some reason, Margaret couldn’t bear to watch this. All the words she’d meant to say clogged in her chest. A retort felt pointless, and suddenly so did her presence here.
Without a word, she turned and walked out.
To her surprise, Theodore followed her out.
“Margie, where are you going?” he called, his hand closing around her wrist.
Myrna emerged behind them, an exasperated sigh escaping her lips. “Oh, come on. You’re not really upset again, are you? This is ridiculous.”
She shook her head, a look of utter disbelief on her face. “Theodore and I are like brothers. Are you seriously jealous of me?”
“Shut your mouth!” Theodore cut Myrna off, his voice icy. “Did I give you permission to enter?”
His cold tone made Myrna’s face stiffen. “Theodore, we’ve always-”
“Get out,” he ordered.
Perhaps sensing the dangerous edge in his demeanor, Myrna shrugged and finally rose. “Fine, fine. Go calm your little sweetheart. I won’t hold it against you.
She sauntered out as if nothing were amiss, shooting Margaret a gloomy look as she passed.
Margaret met her gaze coldly. “Ms. Hickman should stay. I’m the one leaving. You two childhood friends shouldn’t be disturbed.”
With that, she shook off Theodore’s reaching hand and strode from the chamber.
Myrna hurried after her into the hallway. “Come on, is this really necessary? Even if you hate my guts, don’t take it out on Theodore. He was ready to kick me out for you! Why are you still mad at him?”
“Cyan, take Ms. Hickman to her quarters to rest.” Theodore’s voice came from behind them, tense and
controlled.
Snapping to attention, Cyan quickly guided a reluctant Myrna away.
Margaret kept walking, but Theodore caught up and grasped her arm again.
“I’ve been searching for a certain treasure map. She brought a credible lead today. I went to check it out myself but came back empty–handed,” he said, the words coming out in a low rush.
It was an explanation for why Myrna had been at the mansion.
Not waiting for Margaret’s response, he gently but firmly guided her back into his chambers.
