Chapter 311 Crossroads
Fallshed
Julie couldn’t hold back her frustration any longer. “What’s it going to take? Are you really going to go through with killing Ms. Campbell? I’ve said everything I can, and you-
“I didn’t know she saved your life before But now, there’s no backing out,” Herman replied, his voice steady.
He looked at her intently, his expression grim. “You can warn her if you want. Tell her to watch her back. As for me…”
“You think I won’t?” Julie cut him off, her eyes already welling up. “But if I tell her, won’t that sign your death warrant?”
Her tears brought a pang of bitterness in Herman’s chest.
He let out a slow, weary breath. “Don’t cry. I—”
“I don’t care! You can’t hurt her! If she dies, I swear I won’t live through it. And if you die… I won’t make it, either! I need both of you alive and well. That’s the only way!”
Her words poured out between ragged sobs, tears streaming down her cheeks. “I meant every word. I’ve liked you since we were kids, and I like you even more now. I want you by my side for the rest of our lives. Can’t we just live like any normal couple? Wouldn’t that be enough?
“I’ll work hard–we’ll build a life together. You won’t have to do those terrible things anymore. Just leave that gang behind. Let’s live an honest life, please?
“If you quit and stay with me, I’ll talk to Ms. Campbell. She’ll help us sort everything out. She’s a good person, she really is. With her protection, Prince Theodore’s men won’t dare touch you. They might even keep you safe. Trust me. This way… everyone wins.”
She was a mess now, crying and sniffling, her face streaked with tears.
Herman watched, his brow furrowed. “I said don’t cry. I told you the truth. The choice to warn her is
yours…”
“Warn her, and then what? You’ll still go after her! She’ll be ready and catch you. Is that the plan? Sacrifice one person to end this? What about me? I told you–if you die, I’m gone, too
Still crying, Julie turned away and slumped into a nearby chair, refusing to look at him.
He moved closer, helpless. “We knew each other as children, but it’s been years. How can your feelings run so deep? You could live a full life without me…”
“Don’t say that! Don’t you dare!” She spun around, her voice trembling. “I said I like you. You’re the only one I’ve ever liked. How can you be so cruel?”
Her raw emotion left Herman at a loss.
Watching her struggle to breathe between sobs, he felt utterly powerless. “I can’t change this.”

“Then I’ll go to Ms. Campbell myself and ask her to fix it!”
With that, Julie stormed the door, her hand gripping the handle.
But she didn’t turn it.
After a tense pause, she suddenly rushed back and threw her arms around him.
Herman stiffened, instinctively trying to push her away, but she held on tight.
Fuented
“You were worried about me just now, weren’t you? You hate seeing me cry. That means you care. You do like me, don’t you?”
At her words, he frowned.
How could someone like me, living on the edge, ever deserve to love anyone?
With that thought, Herman gently pried her away. “I just don’t like seeing women cry.”
“No! You do care! You want a life with me, too, don’t you?” Julie retorted.
Herman shook his head.
Julie’s heart sank. “I don’t believe you…”
“Julie-”
She drew a shaky.breath. “I won’t tell Ms. Campbell. But for the next few days, you’re not getting rid of me. I’ll stick to you every second. If you try to leave, I–I’ll.”
She thought for a moment, then mimed choking herself. “I’ll do it! If you can live with that, then go ahead and walk away!”
Herman exhaled heavily. “Julie…”
“Good! It’s settled then. I’ll have someone bring in bedding. Starting tonight, I’m sleeping right here on the floor. You won’t leave my sight, so you can forget about going after Ms. Campbell!”
She was deadly serious.
This childish plan was her last resort–a sign of true desperation.
Herman watched her, a flicker of tenderness softening his gaze.
You silly girl…
She had no idea that even if he backed down, others would still come for Margaret.
