Chapter 315 A Web of Lies
The entire journey, Stella’s face was a storm cloud. Under her breath, she kept seething, a low, venomous hiss. “Failed again! Useless! What kind of pathetic gang did you hire? A complete bunch of failures!”
Nadia, trembling, tried to explain, “It shouldn’t have happened. The Lynx Gang has a solid reputation around Breston. They even have that so–called number one assassin in their ranks. This level of failure… it doesn’t make sense.”
“That damn ‘number one assassin‘ vanished after botching the job the first time! A fraud, through and through!” Stella spat, her teeth clenched so tight her jaw ached. “And they had the gall to let my name slip? No honor at all!”
“What do we do now? Walking in there is practically walking into a trap…”
“On what evidence? The word of some two–bit killer? Go get Father. Now,” Stella snapped, her mind racing.
“Mr. Campbell already heard the commotion. He’s probably on his way over…”
Stella hissed, “Damn it! Margaret just won’t die! Fine. If that’s how it is, we move to the final plan.”

Before she knew it, they arrived at Rose Court.
The courtyard blazed with light, and the moment Stella stepped through the gate, every eye turned toward her.
Jasper was the first to approach, his expression pained. “Stella, how could you? Hiring killers against your own sister… it’s despicable.”
“Jasper, I didn’t! I heard about it on the way here! I have no idea why that man would accuse me. I would never do such a thing!” Stella cried, cutting him off. Tears welled in her eyes.
Nadia threw herself to the ground with a thud. “Mr. Jasper Campbell, please, you must believe her! She isn’t capable of this!”
Then, shifting her pleading gaze to Timothy, who had just arrived, she added, “Mr. Timothy Campbell, there has to be some mistake. Our Ms. Stella Campbell is clever. If she truly hired an assassin, she’d never pick such a fool–one who’d blurt out his employer’s name! This is clearly a frame–up…”
Margaret stood silent and calm, observing the scene.
Jasper remained beside her, his eyes filled with profound disappointment.
Timothy, unfamiliar with the details, scowled at the gathered crowd. “What is the meaning of this spectacle? Have you no shame? Everyone, disperse! And if a single word of tonight leaves this courtyard, you’ll answer to me!”
At his command, the hovering servants quickly scattered, leaving only the key players in the tense circle of light.

Baxter Trowned, stepping forward. “With respect, Mr. Timothy Campbell, I am Prince Theodore’s shadow guard, tasked with Ms. Margaret Campbell’s safety. An attempt on her life is a serious matter. Sweeping it under the rug isn’t an option.”
Timothy’s voice turned icy. This is a family affair. Even Prince Theodore shouldn’t interfere lightly.”
He then fixed his stern gaze on Margaret. “Sisters plotting against each other–what a disgrace! The rumors of your feud are already everywhere. Must you create more scandal?”
With the courtyard now private, Stella sank to her knees, a picture of anguish. “Father, we are not at each other’s throats! Yes, Margaret and I might not see eye to eye, but taking her life? I swear, I haven’t done it!”
“Lies! You paid our leader a fortune, you vile woman! Why won’t you admit you tried to have your own sister killed?” the wounded assassin on the ground groaned, forcing out the words.
After all, his family’s safety hung in the balance.
Stella looked at him, her vision blurred by tears. “Who sent you to slander me? Why me? Even if I were capable of such a thing, I’d never hire someone as stupid as you! Who in their right mind hires an assassin who can’t keep his mouth shut? Would any of you?”
A wry laugh escaped her. “I understand now. I see the truth. Margaret… this is all your doing, isn’t it? You staged this whole performance. What a brilliant show you’ve put on.”
Her devastated expression was so convincing that even Jasper glanced uncertainly at Margaret.
Timothy’s eyes narrowed. “I will get to the bottom of this and clear both your names. But it’s the middle of the night. Enough of this drama!”
Stella’s voice rose, trembling with feigned outrage. “And how will you clear my name, Father? After this, everyone will believe I hired a killer. They’ll think I’m a monster! My reputation is already in tatters.
“Even if you uncover the ‘truth‘ later, even if I’m ‘cleared,‘ the damage is done! She gets to play the victim, winning everyone’s sympathy. And me? I’ll be the one everyone spits on!”
