CHAPTER 182 PART 2

“Against everyone connected to them,” Maurice clarified. “Everyone who participated in the assassination attempt. Everyone who knew and said nothing. Everyone who profited from their schemes.”

He stood and walked to the table where intelligence reports were spreading like flowers blooming in fast motion. Names. Connections. Bank transfers. All the evidence that the Lancasters had built their power through systematic corruption and blackmail.

“Call in our contacts in the city,” Maurice said. His voice was quiet, but it carried the weight of absolute command. “I want surveillance on every Lancaster property. I want accounts frozen. I want their business partners contacted and informed that any continued association with the family will result in consequences.”

“That will take time,” Miles warned. “And the Lancasters will realize what’s happening. They’ll try to run.”

“Let them run,” Maurice said. “There’s nowhere in Five-River Province they can hide. There’s nowhere in the entire country they can hide from the Willson Pavilion. They chose to make an enemy of something far greater than themselves.”

He turned to look at Miles directly. Her injuries were healing, her loyalty absolute. She had stood beside him through everything, never wavering, never questioning.

“You understand what this means?” he asked. “Once we start this, once we move against the Lancasters with Pavilion backing, there will be blood. A lot of blood. There will be deaths. Some of them will be disciples. Some of them will be people we care about.”

“I understand,” Miles said. “But what choice do we have? They tried to have you killed. They tried to use the Dragon King against you. If we don’t respond, it shows weakness. It shows the Pavilion is something that can be manipulated.”

Maurice nodded. She was right. This wasn’t about revenge anymore. This was about establishing dominance. This was about showing every ambitious family in Five-River Province that there were rules. Rules that couldn’t be broken without consequences.

The next morning, the first moves began. Lancaster business accounts were frozen pending investigations into corruption charges. Their key employees were approached and offered better positions elsewhere. Their warehouse contracts were suddenly canceled due to mysterious facility violations.

By the afternoon, confusion had turned to panic.

By evening, Isidore Lancaster was making frantic calls trying to understand what was happening. The wealth that had seemed so infinite was suddenly becoming inaccessible. The connections that had seemed so powerful were suddenly becoming worthless.

He tried calling people who had been his friends for decades. The phones rang to voicemail. He tried contacting government officials who owed him favors. They were suddenly unavailable, suddenly reluctant to take his calls.

Within twenty-four hours, the Lancaster Family went from provincial royalty to pariahs.

And Maurice Springs sat in the safe house, drinking his medicinal tea, watching reports come in of businesses collapsing, assets being seized, properties being repossessed by banks that had suddenly decided to enforce old fine print.

The Dragon King was watching, but he wasn’t the one destroying the Lancasters.

The Willson Pavilion was.

And in the silence of the mountain safe house, Maurice Springs finally allowed himself to smile. Not from cruelty. Not from satisfaction. But from the understanding that justice, when it finally came, moved with the weight of forces so enormous that human resistance became meaningless.

The Lancasters had made their choice when they tried to kill him.

Now they would live with the consequences.
