Talia’s POV
I had not gone fifty feet into the tunnel before I caught the smell of blood.
It was rogue blood, yet under that was a scent I recognized quite well. ‘We have to find Robin. He’s injured,’ my wolf warned.
I rushed around the next bend and saw them.
Rogue corpses lay across the floor of the tunnel. Blood pooled around them. My nose wrinkled at the smell. Then, I found him.
Robin lay on his side against the wall. His one good eye stared blankly. Robin's hand was still gripped tightly around the hilt of his dagger.
"Robin? Robin?" I repeated, rushing over to him and knelt beside him.
‘He is gone,’ my wolf whispered. 'Death is on him.'
‘No, we don’t know that,’ I said in denial and then checked his pulse, hoping that he was just unconscious. As soon as I touched his skin, I knew he was gone. His skin was cold.
Anger and regret rose inside me. I wanted to scream or hit something, but I held it back. “Why didn’t you come with me?” I whispered as the tears rolled down my face.
“I am sorry, Robin. I am so sorry I did not get back in time. I will take care of your daughter. I promise you, she will have a home with Nolan and me when this is over. She will grow up safe,” I whispered. “May you rest in peace with the Moon Goddess.”
My voice broke at the last words. I let myself grieve for a moment. Then I closed his eye and stood up.
The rest of the tunnel was quiet. I came up through the hatch, half expecting to be met by rogues, but no one was there. I quickly walked to my room, avoiding the guards.
'Thank the Goddess,' I sighed.
'Don't thank her yet. Go shower. The sun will be up soon,' my wolf urged.
I changed out of my clothes and took a quick shower. I kept watching the bathroom door, worried Jason might come in, but he never did. Afterward, I put on one of the dresses Annie had set out and hid the dagger in the loose fabric at the back.
By the time I was done, it was already dawn. Then, someone knocked at the door and I knew it was time.
I walked to the door, drew in a deep breath, and let it out slowly to calm myself. Then I opened the door and saw Nolan, but not my Nolan, instead sick twisted Jason wearing an illusion.
“Where were you? You were supposed to come to me last night,” I demanded before he had a chance to speak.
“I fell asleep on the patrol route. I don't know how. I have never done that in my life,” Jason explained.
I crossed my arms and said, “I waited for hours. I don't even know when I fell asleep."
Jason looked surprised, then his face turned serious. My wolf tensed inside me and said, ‘Calm down. He doesn’t know anything.’
“I have some bad news. Robin is dead,” Jason finally said.
“What? How?” I asked in fake surprise.
“We found his body in one of our escape tunnels. We are still trying to figure out what happened,” Jason explained.
“Why was he in the tunnel?”

The readers' comments on the novel: Second Chance for the Barren Luna (Talia and Jason)
I really like this book however, it is getting too tiring of too much of the lack of use of common sense and repetitive motion of Talia being stubborn (stupid) to be caught/kidnapped so many times. I still do enjoy it just getting a little tiring. Thank you!...
I really appreciate the author taking the time to write this book! Keep up the good work. This has become my sweet treat to read before bed every night after I get my kids down. Keeps you on the edge waiting for what happens next! So adventurous and really compelling story line. Truly appreciate the hard work that it has taken to write something of this nature and level. Thank you author....
