“Fuck,” Gulliver gritted out through his teeth as he looked over his shoulder at the two kids standing there. “Uh, your mom and I were watching a movie.”
“And I got something in my eye. I think it was dust from the laptop.” She tried not to punch him in the gut when Gulliver went with the story and opened her eye with his fingers and blew in it. “What the hell?”
“Blowing out the dust,” he grinned at her as he moved to get off her lap.
“You don’t blow in someone’s eye, idiot. You could give me pink eye. I don’t know where that mouth has been.”
“Eating pizza and drinking wine,” he was cocky as he smirked at her. “I thought blowing out the dust was the right thing.”
“The dust in my eyeball is the only thing getting blown tonight,” she snapped as she shook her head at him.
He was still beaming and she couldn’t figure out why.
“What are you two doing up?” January asked ignoring the happy man beside her as he righted the laptop.
“We can’t sleep. The couch cushions are not as comfy as we

thought they were,” Kaylee complained. “Can we sleep with you?”

“I’m not sleeping in here. We’re watching a movie.” January argued.
“Yeah, but we could have a real sleepover. I can sleep between you, and my dad and Mitsos can sleep on the other side of my dad. It’s a big bed. We should watch K Pop Demon Hunters. Mitsos never saw it.” Kaylee was already climbing up on the bed squeezing between the two adults
“It’s way past your bedtime,” January argued as her daughter was yanking the blankets down to get under them.
“I know but now I’m in bed,” she made wide eyes at them.
“She’s going to rule this family so well that we’ll all be dancing monkeys for the queen,” Gulliver said with a laugh as he patted the other side of him for Mitsos. Mitsos curled right up against his chest, and he pressed a kiss to the top of his head. “Should we get under the blankets, Mitsos?”
“Yes please. I’m cold. Kaylee said her farts would keep us warm, but I think she was wrong.”
January choked on the comment and then got under the blankets while Gulliver lifted the blankets.
“This is weird.”

their bed. This is the same thing except Mitsos is here but he’s my cousin. It’s not like we’d kiss or anything. I bet Darwin would like to kiss him though. Darwin likes boys.” She leaned forward and nodded emphatically at Mitsos.
“I don’t want to kiss boys. I want to kiss girls someday, when I’m not so scared,” Mitsos said seriously. “My dad kisses girls. If you kiss girls you can make babies. I want to have babies.”
“Only girls can have babies.” Kaylee said seriously. “Boys can’t have babies.”
“If I find a wife I can have her have my babies. She’s going to be a good mom too. She’ll stay.”
The assertive comment from Mitsos made January’s heart squeeze tight in the most heartbreaking of ways.
“Mitsos, there is no doubt in my mind you’ll find the perfect match for you someday when you’re a grown up. Right now, though, all you need to do is focus on being a little boy and being happy.”
“I am happy,” he looked at her with wide blue eyes. “I have a cousin and she’s very funny and I have you as my aunt, but I can pretend you’re my mom sometimes. Kaylee said.”
January cupped his cheek softly as he rested his head against Gulliver’s chest as if he’d snuggled with his uncle a thousand times in his lifetime. “You definitely can.”
Her eyes met Gulliver’s as he rubbed Mitsos‘ back keeping him 3/6

“This is cozy!” Kaylee squealed as she lifted Gulliver’s other arm to cuddle him. “Mom, you snuggle me, okay?”
“Sure, Kaylee.”
Gulliver held his arm up, “it’s big enough for both of you. Get over here, Mom.” He winked at January as she set the laptop on his knee and wrapped around Kaylee and under his arm.
She quickly found the movie Kaylee wanted, knowing that the songs would be stuck in her head for the next several days. Soon Kaylee was singing along, and Mitsos‘ eyes were glued to the screen. Gulliver’s eyes were drifting between the three people cuddled up with him and a wide smile on his face he couldn’t
seem to tamper.
Sixty minutes later, both kids were sound asleep on Gulliver’s chest, and he looked at January as she reached for the
computer.
“Leave it. I want to see the end.”
“Seriously?”
“Yeah.”
“Are you comfortable?” she looked at the two kids sprawled over his chest.
“Are you kidding? This is the best fucking feeling in the world. I 4/6
