News of Ethan Blackwood and Melissa James’ upcoming Valentine’s Day marking ceremony spread like wildfire through Silvercrest’s elite paranormal circles. The hastily prepared invitations, with their simple design and rushed calligraphy, stood in stark contrast to the elegant ones previously designed for Amber Chase.
“Have you seen them?” whispered a she-wolf at the Moonlight Club, holding up her phone to show the digital invitation. “They look like they were made overnight.”
Her companion nodded, leaning in closer. “I heard the Blackwood Pack elders weren’t happy about it, but Dominic forced them to accept the
Watch.”
Gossip swirled through every corner of supernatur
society. Some claimed Melissa had trapped Ethan with dark magic, while others insisted she must be carrying his cub. The most prevalent theory, however, was far simpler.
“He’s thinking with his knot, not his brain,” declared one elderly Alpha at his weekly poker game. “Trading a Chase for an omega with no wolf? The boy’s lost his mind.”
Even the human business associates who knew nothing of
wolf dynamics noticed something
odd about the sudden switch in brides. The timing was suspicious, coming so soon after Amber’s very public breakup with Ethan.
Meanwhile, Amber Chase seemed utterly unaffected by the

–
What had begun as simple gifts delivered to Dominic’s office moonlight wine, venison steaks, handcrafted leather goods – escalated dramatically. Bouquets appeared hourly, each more elaborate than the last, until his entire office resembled a flower shop.
Then came the LED screen.
Positioned directly across from the Shadowpeak Enterprises building, the massive digital billboard lit up one Monday morning with a simple message “Dominic Blackwood, will you have dinner with me tonight? – Amber Chase”
The next day, it read: “Your eyes remind me of the sky just before dawn. – Your Amber”
By Wednesday, office workers were gathering on their lunch breaks just to see what would appear next. “I dream of your hands on my skin. – Eternally Yours, Amber”
“Poor Dominic,” murmured sympathetic observers. She’s clearly lost her mind after Ethan left her.”

What they couldn’t know was that Dominic secretly recorded each message, saving them to his phone with a small smile. When Felix Peter caught him watching the videos late one night, Dominic merely shrugged.
“It’s the most unique birthday gift I’ve ever received he admitted, his eyes softening as he watched Amber blow a kiss to the camera in her latest video message.
Felix raised an eyebrow. “Most would call it harassment.”
“Most don’t understand her,” Dominic replied, tucking his phone away. “Or me.”
(Amber’s POV)
The familiar scent of Chase Pack House hit me the moment I stepped through the door – sandalwood incense, moonlight herbs, and the underlying musk of wolves who had inhabited the same space for generations. I hadn’t been back since my accident when I was seventeen, and the memories rushed at me like a physical force.
My wolf stirred uneasily. We shouldn’t be here, Cora whispered in my mind.
“I know,” I murmured under my breath. “But we need to face them sometime.”
The tension in the living room was thick enough to cut with a knife. My father Harrison and brother Henry sat smoking cigarettes, neither looking at the other. On the sofa, my mother Melanie and Victoria pretended to watch television, though their stiff postures betrayed their awareness of my arrival.
“You’re late,” my mother said without looking at me
I shrugged, dropping my purse on a side table. “Traffic.”
Victoria rose from the couch, her smile not reaching her eyes. “Would you like some coffee, sister?”
I noted the dark circles under her eyes poorly concealed by makeup. She looked exhausted. Good.
“Sure,” I replied, matching her false sweetness.
In the kitchen, Victoria busied herself with the coffee maker, her movements jerky with tension. “You should apologize to Mother,” she said, keeping her voice low. “She’s been upset about your behavior lately.”
I leaned against the counter, watching her hands tremble slightly as she measured the coffee. “I hear you’ve been busy yourself, Victoria.”
She glanced at me sharply. “What do you mean?”
“Felix Peter mentioned you’ve been sending gifts to Dominic’s office.” I examined my nails casually. “Trying to catch his attention?”
The coffee scoop clattered to the counter. “That’s none of your business.”

“She’s nervous,” Cora called in my head and I smiled, it was rare to see Victoria’s emotionally
unstable side. Decent demure elegance was her usual mask.
“Actually, it is.” I straightened, dropping all pretense of friendliness. “Dominic told me himself how
he warned you to stay away from him.”
Victoria’s face paled. “You’re lying.”
“He also mentioned something about taking over the Chase Pack if you didn’t back off.” I tilted my
head, enjoying the flash of fear in her eyes. “Interesting threat, don’t you think? Almost as if he has the power to do it.”
From the doorway, my father’s growl interrupted us “Amber. My study. Now.”
Victoria shot me a venomous look as I followed Harrison out of the kitchen. I grabbed a bag of
venison jerky from the pantry on my way, earning another growl from my father.
His study smelled of leather, tobacco, and old books – the scent of power and tradition. I settled into a chair across from his massive oak desk, tearing open the jerky bag with deliberate
casualness.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Harrison demanded, his amber eyes – so like mine – flashing with anger.
I chewed slowly, savoring both the spicy meat and his impatience. “Being honest with my sister.”
“You’re embarrassing this family!” He slammed a fist on the desk. “First that ridiculous display with
the LED screen, and now threatening Victoria with Dominic Blackwood’s authority?”
He’s scared, Cora observed with satisfaction. He knows we’re not bluffing.
I swallowed my jerky and met my father’s glare. “I’m not embarrassing anyone. I’m pursuing my future mate.”
Harrison ran a hand through his graying hair. “This is about Ethan, isn’t it? You’re trying to make him jealous by chasing his cousin.”
“This has nothing to do with Ethan,” I replied calmly. “Dominic and I have an understanding.”
“An understanding?” My father laughed without humor. “Amber, you need to stop this. The Blackwood heir is out of your league.”
I raised an eyebrow. “Is that so? Would you care to make a bet on it?”
