Elaine stared at her in shock. “What do you mean? What happened?”

Quinn wanted nothing more to do with their chaotic mess and tuned them out completely.
Before long, it was two days before Christmas, and Julian returned to Lakeshore City.
Two days before Julian came back, Elaine had called Quinn dozens of times.
Quinn answered the first call.
Elaine had snapped at her to come home, her voice sharp with anger.
Quinn could guess what she wanted and had no intention of going back.
Simply put, she wanted no more to do with the Lane family.
She had already sent over Christmas supplies a few days prior, and had given both Victor and Elaine five thousand dollars each.
She didn’t have much money herself, but no matter how Victor and Elaine treated her now, they had still raised her.
She wanted to show her gratitude as best she could, even if they thought her few thousand dollars was beneath them.
When Elaine realized Quinn had no plans to return, she spilled her demand over the phone.
It all came back to Chase.
Rosalie’s shot at marrying some wealthy big shot was completely over.
Elaine had pressed her over and over at home until Rosalie lost her temper and gave her a straight answer.
The whole lie they’d been clinging to–about Rosalie marrying into a rich family–had fallen apart completely.
So they turned their sights back to Quinn.
They wanted her to remarry Chase.
Quinn didn’t even know what to say to them.
When Quinn refused to obey, Victor once again threatened to cut ties with her.
What else could she do?
They were the ones who had said they would disown her, and they were the same ones who’d fawned over her when they thought she was dating a powerful man.
Quinn found the whole thing ridiculous and bitterly ironic.

This is how university professors behave.
Jess called Quinn afterward, laughing. “I can’t stop laughing. He actually thinks he’s being all devoted and loyal, and wants me to talk you into giving him another chance.”
Did Rosalie run out of tricks to keep men wrapped around her finger?
First her thing with Julian fell apart, and now Chase lost interest in her too.
What happened to her?
Quinn didn’t particularly care.
All three of them were fake and vain.
Quinn truly wanted nothing to do with them.
Again, she would fulfill whatever filial duties she owed them, but any other contact was out of the question.
This family was truly toxic.
Jess went on, “Did he just get his eyesight back? From what he said, he only realized he loved you after the divorce. If only he’d figured that out sooner. Let him sit and regret it–who waits around forever?”
Quinn smiled. “Jess, don’t waste your energy on people like him. It’s not worth it.”
Jess laughed. “I’m not mad. Honestly, someone as wonderful as our Quinn deserves a man like Mr. Julian Sterling.”
Lucy rambled about Quinn and Julian nonstop in their group chat, so Jess had long been in on the idea.
