Second Marriage The Billionaire's Planned Love (Quinn and Julian) novel Chapter 419

Chapter 419 Hope and Fear in the Wait

Mark glanced at Julian, “I will sort everything out. I’m leaving now. Wait for your news.”

He turned and strode away right after speaking.

Xenia waited for him not far away. She stepped forward the froment she saw him coming. “How did it go?”

Mark reached out and pulled her straight into his arms.

“Honey…” His voice carried a faint tremor.

A strong hunch lingered in his mind, yet he dared not voice it out loud to Xenia. He even started to regret telling her about Quinn’s traffic accident.

If Xenia ever found out the real reason behind Faye’s attack, and if Quinn really turned out to be their lost daughter, Mark could not bring himself to imagine how things would unfold.

He held her tight for a while before slowly letting go. “It’s nothing serious. Let’s head back first.”

He had to keep the paternity test plan a secret from Xenia. She was simple and pure-hearted, and she would never notice anything unusual as long as he stayed quiet.

Still, along the ride back, she kept staring at him with obvious worry.

“Talk to me if anything troubles you,” she said softly. “Don’t carry all the weight alone.”

Mark knew very well that outsiders all thought he was the one holding everything together in their family. Yet no one else knew Xenia was his whole emotional/anchor.

On the surface, she relied on him for everything and seemed unable to get through life without him. In truth, he relied on her just as deeply. Without Xenia by his side, his whole world would lose all meaning.

“I’m truly fine, my love,” he whispered and pressed a gentle kiss on her forehead. “I will tell you everything the second something comes up.”

Quinn finally woke up around eleven o’clock at night. She had drifted in and out of sleep constantly. This time when she opened her eyes, she felt far better, and the heavy ache in her head faded away greatly.

“You’re awake?” Julian sat right beside her bed, his face filled with undisguised concern. “How are you feeling now?”

“I feel much better.” Quinn looked at him. “Have you stayed here this whole time?”

“I caught a little nap just now,” Julian lied softly. “Don’t worry, I’m not tired at all.”

Quinn nodded gently. “You get some rest too once I fall asleep again.”

“I will.” He held her hand firmly. “Quinn, there’s something I want to talk over with you.”

“What is it?”

“I met a woman who looks almost identical to you. She and her husband lost their daughter many years ago. They hope you will agree to take a paternity test with them.”

Quinn’s heart jolted sharply, and her mind turned into total chaos. After staying quiet for a long while, she spoke in a low tone, “I was left outside an orphanage when I was little. I always thought my birth parents abandoned me on purpose…

“We can never be sure that’s the whole truth,” Julian comforted her. “No one knows exactly what happened all those years ago. I will turn them down right away if you don’t want to go through with the test.”

Pain stabbed straight into Mark’s heart. “Please stop saying these words.”

He did not even dare to ask what hardships Quinn had endured after getting adopted, or who had treated her badly. He took a deep breath and forced all those distressing thoughts down.

Medical staff began ward rounds after seven in the morning, and Quinn started receiving intravenous drips shortly after eight. It was nearly nine o’clock before professional medical workers came to draw blood samples from her.

Mark also gave his blood sample right away. They applied for urgent testing, and the official results would

Come out within four hours.

Finished

Mark wanted to wait in the hospital for the final answer, yet he felt uneasy leaving Xenia alone in the hotel. Besides, he still needed to deal with all the troubles caused by Faye and her family.

Faye’s family were all idle and incompetent people. They could achieve nothing on their own and only knew how to live off others’ success.

For so many years, they had lived luxurious lives entirely relying on Mark’s support. Such daily expenses never meant much to Mark financially. He was willing to keep supporting these relatives purely out of family ties, since Faye’s grandfather was his uncle.
