“But if Xavier ever does something wrong and upsets me, I can consider punishing him by making him knit sweaters. He should knit a whole set of them and put one on to watch the snow at Uncle Austin’s.”
Chester clapped. “That’s the way to do it, Callie. Make the punishment harsher. Xavier should knit a few for me, too. I haven’t worn a hand-knitted sweater before.”
Satbury’s winters were freezing and heavy with snow. Even during the fall, the temperature fell lower than Wiltspoon’s coldest winter.
Every winter break, Austin would send the children back to Wiltspoon to spend the season there. Chase and Chester preferred staying there. Though summer arrived early, it was not the hottest city in the country.
Mainly, winter was just right. It was neither too hot nor too cold.
Even with heating at home in Satbury, stepping outside in the winter was freezing, especially since the Yorks were accustomed to Wiltspoon’s weather.
Before elementary school, Chester had even gone to kindergarten in Wiltspoon. As a child, he was not keen on staying in Satbury due to the chills. He had always preferred Wiltspoon.
Austin and Isabella had put Chester in a nursery in Wiltspoon instead. Since Tania and Liam were retired, they could look after the kids. Zachary and Serenity could step in when needed, too.
Chester was taken back to Satbury when it was time for him to attend elementary school. He was not pleased with his parents for removing him from Wiltspoon. He wanted to go to school in Wiltspoon, so he could play with his older cousins after school.
Behind the wheel, Xavier said with a smile, “I can make time to learn if Callie wants to wear a sweater made by me. Chester can serve as my practice run.
“Since I'm a beginner, the first few attempts will probably look hideous. Chester is just a child. It’s okay if he wears something ugly. No one is going to laugh at him.”
Chester responded, “Spare me some dignity, Xavi. I’m not a child anymore. I start middle school in September. I’m officially a teen!”
“A minor is a child. You don’t need dignity.
“If anyone mocks you for wearing an ugly sweater, just say that family made you one. Ask your friends if they have a sweater knitted by family.
“I bet they will only be jealous of you. Once I get the hang of knitting, I can make you another to make it up to you.”
As if. Xavier would just buy Chester one.
