Laurence looked slightly embarrassed. “I haven’t finished knitting yet. I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t had time to continue. Once this busy period passes, I’ll make time to finish that sweater.
“I’ll try my best to have it ready before winter so I can give it to Noelle. As for Xavier and Devon, let them learn if they want to. If I can learn to knit a sweater for Noelle, they can certainly do the same for Callie and Clo.
“If they truly love them, then there’s nothing they wouldn’t do for them.”
Laurence was the perfect example. Because he genuinely loved Noelle, he was willing to do anything for her.
No one around him knew how to knit. It was just an offhand suggestion from Chloe, but he had taken it seriously and learned it.
“True. As elders, we can tell at a glance whether someone’s feelings are genuine.”
When it came to his precious daughter’s future happiness, Zachary had exceptionally high standards for his future son-in-law.
If Xavier’s feelings contained even the slightest hint of insincerity, he would never allow Callia to be with him.
Xavier had set his sights on Callia since they were children. He even told his best friends that he would marry her. Over the years, he had remained devoted to loving and spoiling her.
The York and Bucham families had been close family friends for generations and were familiar with each other’s background. The Bucham elders fully supported Xavier’s feelings for Callia. However, the Yorks merely watched for now. They neither encouraged nor opposed the relationship, letting the two young ones develop naturally.
Still, Xavier had inherited the domineering trait the Buchams were known for. There were no other men around Callia. No matter how outstanding the man was, getting close to her was impossible. Xavier was exceptionally good at keeping rivals away.
Even Ben was not as vigilant as he was. Although Ben had fallen for Jane early on, he had not managed to keep every rival away. Jane had even dated someone else before. It was only after she was dumped and her adoptive mother pressured her to get married that she hired Ben to be her pretend-boyfriend.
Ben’s calculating side only emerged after Jane took the initiative to approach him.
