Heath grumbled, “Mom doesn’t care about me at all.”

“What do you mean? I’m just taking a couple of days off. How is that not caring about you?”

“I want to go on holiday too.”

Heath still sounded a little aggrieved.

“Then ask Lil’ Pie to come back and take your place, then you can have half a month off, even.”

Heath immediately replied, “I don’t have to go on holiday. It’s just that you guys went off without a word, which made me feel like I’d been abandoned.”

He was already in his twenties, but before his parents, Heath still felt like he was a child.

“Lil’ Pie is working at Clo’s, and she’s doing well. Don’t call her back. It’s too tiring for her. I’ll feel bad. It’s not so tiring for her over there.”

Heath felt bad for his sister.

He took on all the intense and tiring work so Callia could live a carefree life, knowing she could rely on her brother for everything.

Having been groomed as the heir from a young age, Heath knew all too well the hardships that came with it. He did not mind getting a little tired. After all, he was a man and was tough enough. However, his sister was a delicate girl who should be properly doted on and cared for. He could not let her get worn out.

Serenity knew precisely that her son doted on his little sister, which is why she said what she said.

“It’s not like we’re not coming back. Soon, alright. Then, I’ll ask your dad to give you a few days off so you can have a good rest.”

Heath asked eagerly, “Really? Will Dad agree to it?”

“I’m the one asking. Do you think he wouldn’t?”

“You guys benefited from it too, didn’t you? Ever since young, whenever you got on your dad’s bad side, it’s always been me who came to your rescue.”

Heath thought about it and realized it was true. Sometimes he felt like Zachary was henpecked, afraid of Serenity.

If no one could rein his father in, he would be in for it.

Apart from Grandma May, Zachary was most scared of Serenity.

When Heath’s great-nana was still alive, she would protect them. Sometimes, his father and his uncles would be utterly furious but still not be able to lay a hand on them.

After the old lady passed on, the only one who could protect them was Serenity because sometimes even Liam and Tania were not able to.

His father and uncles were all raised by his great-nana, so they respected her a lot. Liam and Tania’s opinions, on the other hand, did not carry half as much weight.
