Serenity and Zachary York novel Chapter 5587

Stuart stammered, not daring to answer.

If he claimed that all the tea had been consumed, then who had drunk it?

But if he said it had not been used, then who had taken the rest?

Laurence's expression darkened. He ordered in a stern voice, "Bring me the ledgers!"

"S-Sir, it's almost dark now…"

"Am I not allowed to check the accounts after dark? Does this place not have lights?"

Laurence shot back at him. "Go and get the ledgers now. I want to know exactly where the tea has gone. I'm the head of the family, yet I can't even get a decent cup of tea!"

"Yes, sir!"

Stuart dared not refuse again and hurriedly turned to leave, wiping sweat from his forehead.

Both the main estate and the secondary residence received fresh tea every year. They were premium varieties that even other wealthy families would struggle to buy.

The family generally reserved the tea for the head's daily consumption or for entertaining distinguished guests. Whenever a shipment arrived, it had to be recorded. Every allocation had to be documented, whether it was used or given away. Only the family head had the authority to give it away as a gift.

Of course, the Longbottom family had no official family head for the past thirty years. Although the acting heads did not possess absolute power, they were still granted certain authorities in the absence of a legitimate heir.

This year's fresh tea arrived long ago. Manny had taken some to give away as gifts, but a portion remained. Since Tony and the others rarely visited the villa, Stuart had secretly sold the remaining tea for cash.
