Gu Fangqi noticed the strange look Shen Yue was giving him.
He cleared his throat.
"What I said isn’t wrong. My coming-of-age ceremony was one hundred and twenty years ago. He must have been seventy or eighty back then!"
Shen Yue listened, stunned. ’So Huang Ziyue’s real age was even older than the hundred-odd years Mu Silin mentioned?’
’Was he actually over two hundred?’
’And she hadn’t expected Gu Fangqi to be over a hundred, either?’
But then, Gu Fangqi added,
"That’s not right. I heard back then that he was already over a hundred. It’s hard to say what’s true and what’s not. Speaking of which, how old are you, really?"
Shen Yue’s lip twitched. ’He heard he was over a hundred back then? Add it all up, and doesn’t that make him over three hundred?’
’His age was becoming more and more of a mystery.’
Hearing Gu Fangqi’s question and seeing the shock on Shen Yue’s face, Huang Ziyue’s expression tightened. He bit out four words:
"Age is not important."
Shen Yue: "..."
’What a textbook non-answer.’
Just then, a sudden noise erupted from the black mist.
The three of them—Shen Yue, Huang Ziyue, and Gu Fangqi—instantly looked up to see a mass of black mist churning rapidly.
In the next second, it shot toward them with lightning speed.
The black mist enveloped the trio, and an invisible pressure bore down from above.
A figure emerged from the black mist, materializing a short distance from Shen Yue.
Huang Ziyue’s eyes darkened, and he tried to force himself to his feet.
But Shen Yue quickly pushed him back down.
Standing beside Shen Yue, Gu Fangqi squinted at the newcomer.
The aura radiating from the man in black swept over them like a frigid wind, ruffling Shen Yue’s disheveled hair.
The man stood several meters from Shen Yue, his strange purple eyes fixed on her face like a viper’s.
Upon seeing her face, his gaze grew even more venomous, as if dipped in poison.
A shiver of primal fear ran through Shen Yue under his gaze.
She kept her face impassive, wracking her brain for any memory associated with those eyes, but she found not a single trace of a man with purple pupils.
After a moment’s thought, she decided to speak first.
"You attack us with lethal intent the moment you arrive. May I ask what grudge exists between us that would warrant such an extreme response?"
Hearing her words, the man’s gaze intensified, boring into her.
A chill ran down Shen Yue’s spine under his stare, but she pressed on:
"As far as I know, I have no quarrel with you. If you’re going to kill us, don’t you think you should at least give us a reason?"
Upon hearing this, his gaze darkened further. He narrowed his eyes and stretched out a hand.
Shen Yue was instantly seized by a powerful, unseen force and yanked through the air.
Behind her, a shocked Huang Ziyue started to charge forward.
Gu Fangqi also prepared to attack.
But they froze when they saw the man had already grabbed Shen Yue by the throat.
Both of them froze, not daring to make a reckless move.
A frosty aura erupted from Huang Ziyue as he stared intently at the man in black.
In the man’s grasp, Shen Yue struggled to breathe. The terrifying pressure emanating from him made her legs go weak.
The man’s voice was frigid, seeming to rumble from deep within his chest:
"A reason? You dare ask me for a reason?"
Meeting his venomous gaze, a chill spread through Shen Yue’s chest.
’Was he interrogating me?’
She forced herself to remain calm, steadying her body with the faint breaths she managed to draw through her nose.
The man’s grip tightened viciously, his voice filled with gritted-teeth hatred:
"You should have known. Even if you gave birth to them, those little whelps of yours were never going to live."
"Why bring this suffering upon yourself!"
A chill crept into Shen Yue’s heart as she listened.
’Me, bringing suffering upon myself?’
’Just as I suspected, this all has to do with the original owner of this body.’
’I still don’t know what kind of mess the original owner was caught in, so I absolutely cannot reveal that I’m not her.’
