Jie Ying’s face turned pale with fright. She thought she was about to be made mute again.
Unexpectedly, the Young Master had stopped Shen Yue at the last possible second.
She instantly let out a sigh of relief.
Then, she shot Shen Yue a triumphant look.
The rims of Bai Chaosi’s eyes were red.
He gripped Shen Yue’s wrist, his voice hoarse and strained with restraint.
"Shen Yue, you can’t."
"I can’t let you hurt her."
Shen Yue stared at Bai Chaosi in disbelief.
’Can’t hurt her?’
’Does that mean she can hurt my son? Insult my son?’
Her eyes instantly reddened with anger.
The rage in her heart reached its peak.
She had never felt such resentment toward Bai Chaosi as she did in this moment.
She met his gaze and demanded:
"She called your son ill-bred! Didn’t you hear her?"
Bai Chaosi’s throat tightened, the rims of his eyes a deep red.
"I heard, but I can’t let you hurt her."
So furious she had to force the words through her teeth, Shen Yue began her soul-crushing interrogation:
"For her sake, you can even tolerate your own son being insulted and slandered by her?"
Bai Chaosi said nothing.
An unreadable, complex emotion just flickered in his eyes.
Shen Yue took a deep breath, her gaze fixed on him, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
"Is this your ’love’ for your son?"
Bai Chaosi looked as if he’d been deeply stung.
His eyes were a bottomless vortex of pain, sorrow, and a tangle of murky, obscure emotions.
But he slowly began to speak, his voice dark and raspy.
"In the future, I will atone to you and him. I’ll repay this a thousand, ten thousand times over."
Shen Yue looked at him, her expression shifting from disbelief to the way one looks at a stranger.
After a long moment, she sneered.
’Whatever.’
’Dragging this out is pointless.’
It didn’t matter what Bai Chaosi’s reasons were—whether he had some unavoidable difficulty or he was truly, blatantly favoring this Jie Ying.
None of it mattered anymore.
All she knew was that from this day forward, this man would have nothing to do with her or her child!
He had indulged that woman to this extent even as his son was being slandered, watching with his own eyes as his child was insulted and berated, yet he remained unmoved.
He even stopped her when she tried to stand up for their son and vent his anger.
That was enough to prove that in his heart, even his son’s suffering weighed less than that woman.
He would let others bully his own flesh and blood while he stood by and watched. She wouldn’t waste another second on a man like that.
She wouldn’t let Liu Bao have any contact with him ever again.
In that instant, all the anger in her vanished, replaced by emptiness.
"There’s no need."
’A thousand, ten thousand times over? He can keep his repayment for himself.’
Bai Chaosi’s pupils contracted. He could feel her disappointment in him in that moment.
Shen Yue said, "Let go."
It was as if he had forgotten how to react.
Perhaps he was afraid she would strike again, so he didn’t release his grip.
His grip on her wrist was starting to hurt.
"Don’t worry. I won’t hurt her again."
Then, she stood up and, before Bai Chaosi could react, violently shook his hand away.
It was a gesture that completely severed their relationship.
"I promise, as long as you take her and get out of my sight, I won’t lay a finger on her."
"I’ll act as if I’ve never met her."
"And one more thing. From now on, Liu Bao will have no relationship with you, his father. Having me, his female mother, to love him is enough. He doesn’t need a Father anymore."
As she spoke, she stared at him, her eyes devoid of warmth, and said word by word:
"And you... don’t ever appear before us again. Because the sight of you disgusts me."
Those words crashed straight into Bai Chaosi’s ears.
