Chapter 14
“Speaking of which, Secretary Grant is such a capable talent–you’d better keep an eye on her. Plenty of people out there want to poach her. Vincent’s been eyeing her for a while now.” Baxter reminded him kindly.
Calvin’s response was cool, firm. “She won’t go with anyone else.”
Baxter realized his worry was unnecessary.
After all, everyone had seen clearly how Eliza had treated Calvin all these years.
A woman who, for seven years, had eyes and heart only for him, almost no private space of her own–how could she possibly leave so easily?
Privately, people mocked her as the most loyal lapdog Calvin had ever had.
The kind you couldn’t drive away even if you tried.
So no wonder Calvin was so certain she wouldn’t leave.
“By the way, Josh’s back in Washington. Let’s meet tonight?”
The pen in Calvin’s hand paused before he asked, “What time?”
“Eight o’clock. Same place.”
“Alright.”
The “same place” Baxter mentioned was Western Paradise.
Eliza happened to be there too not for Calvin, of course, but because Derek had arranged for her to meet Vincent there.
Vincent was scheduled to see an important client, so to save time he set their talk at the same venue.
When Eliza arrived with Derek, the client hadn’t left yet.
Vincent ushered them straight in.
The moment Eliza stepped inside, she recognized the client: Camille Moore, a powerful businesswoman she’d once crossed paths with at a venture capital summit.
Camille recognized her too. “Secretary Grant? Long time no seel” she exclaimed in surprise.
“Hello, President Moore,” Eliza greeted politely.
Vincent, curious, asked, “You two know each other?”
Camille explained with a smile: “At last year’s summit in City S, Secretary Grant helped me out in a big way. I never even got the chance to thank
her.”
“You flatter me, President Moore, it was nothing,” Eliza demurred.
She wasn’t being falsely modest. It truly had been a small matter.
That night, just before Camille was to accept an award on stage, her period had come unexpectedly, leaving her in severe pain.
Dressed in an evening gown, without her phone on hand, she couldn’t reach her assistant for help..

Time to go on stage was running out; she was panicking.
Eliza had happened to walk in.
Carrying, as always, spare pads and painkillers, she’d been able to help in time.
Camille had kept that moment in her heart ever since, because that summit had been a turning point in her career–one of the most important nights of her life.
“No, you really saved me!” Camille insisted warmly, pulling Eliza down beside her.
Vincent was delighted. With Camille holding so many resources, if Eliza could get closer to her, he would profit too.
As they chatted, Camille learned that Vincent was trying to recruit Eliza.
She asked, “Are you planning a job change?”
Eliza nodded. “I want a different environment.”
“Ever think about moving to City S? Come work for me,” Camille invited.
Eliza knew Camille’s company was sizable.
But City S was too far away.
She politely declined.
Camille was regretful but respected her choice. “Quinn Group’s not bad either. Vincent has good eyes.”
The conversation was pleasant. Camille even stayed longer than planned.
Until someone came to fetch her, a young, handsome boy, barely looking past college age.
Clingy, too.
He swept her into a French kiss right at the door, leaving the others awkwardly averting their eyes.
Camille pushed him away with a playful scold, and only then did he let go.
Her brows and eyes glowed, soft and full of longing. “This is my boyfriend. Young men are too passionate. It’s hard to handle. Sorry for the
scene.”
Vincent and Derek exchanged meaningful looks.
Nothing more than the obvious: Camille and her boyfriend had a striking ago gap. At least twenty years.
The little boy was impatient, urging her on, so Camille didn’t linger.
She bid everyone farewell.
Eliza, out of courtesy, walked her to the door.
On the way, Camille chatted, while the young man waited in the car.
“You must be wondering why date someone so young?” Camille asked frankly, not shying away.

Eliza hesitated but admitted, “A little.”
“Men,” Camille scoffed lightly. “Take it from me: if he has money, use his money. If he has connections, use his connections. If he’s strong, use his body. Don’t get hung up on love, it means nothing.”
As she said it, she blew a kiss at the boy waiting in the car.
“Of course, when I was young, I was foolish too. Chasing so–called true love. And the result, you see it yourself. In the end, it’s just like that.”
“Remember the rule of the world: any relationship, if you don’t want it anymore, the problem’s solved.”
On her way back to the private room, Eliza ran into someone she hadn’t expected.
Her steps froze.
