Chapter 168
The waiter brought over breakfast, and Baxter had just reached for the pancakes when Calvin cut him off.
Just what I was craving.”
Baxter glared at him. “Can’t you order your own?”
Gideon quickly jumped in to keep the peace. “I’ll order another one for you, alright?”
He had just raised his hand to call the waiter when a gorgeously dressed woman came trotting over. She flung her arms around Baxter from behind.
Bax, fancy seeing you again! Miss me?”
Gideon recognized her–Audrey. He’d seen her before when Baxter had brought her along to one of their nights out.
Baxter hurriedly pried her off. “Quit messing around.”
Tsk. Men are all the same–done with the fun and straight to heartless.” Audrey huffed. “Just last night you were all over me in the hotel hallway, and now you’re pretending it never happened?”
What ‘all over“? Don’t make things up.” Baxter silently thanked the heavens Eliza was in another dining hall.
Making things up? Dare to pull out the shirt you wore yesterday? The lipstick stain’s still on it.”
Baxter: “…”
Too many exes really was a problem.
Across from him, the man who’d stayed tense all night suddenly relaxed his frown.
Gideon scratched his head and asked Audrey, “Didn’t you get married?”
Being married means I can’t play?” she shot back.
ideon: “Awesome.”
Audrey just shrugged. “I walk men’s paths until they’ve got nowhere left to go.”
Gideon was speechless.
Baxter’s exes–each one more outrageous than the last. Apparently, that was his type.
At last, Audrey left, and Bazter exhaled in relief.
Calvin slid the stolen pancake back in front of him.
Baxter blinked. “7”
Calvin said, “Consider it an apology.”
”
Baxter: “…”
Stealing breakfast only to return it as an apology? Who did that?
Seeing the tension ease, Medea finally relaxed. “Let’s let yesterday go. From now on, things should be as before–let’s keep meeting up and staying close.”
“Right, we still need to be groomsmen for Calv’s wedding,” Gideon chimed in.
Baxter paused. “You do it. I’m not.”
Chapter 168
“Why not? We had a deal. Whoever marries first, the others are his groomsmen.”
Baxter leaned back leisurely. “Heard too many times as a groomsman, you’ll never marry yourself.”
“Cough, cough-” Gideon nearly choked. “What kind of nonsense is that?”
“Either way, I’m not doing it.”
He’d be crazy to stand as groomsman at Calvin and Medea’s wedding. Eliza would definitely mark that against him.
‘Calv, I want some wonton soup,” Medea said.
‘I’ll order it,” Calvin replied, already lifting his hand.
She stopped him. “No need to trouble the waiter. Just share a little with me–use this small bowl.”
Gideon grinned. “Medea, you’re using the ‘baby bowl‘ too?”
‘What baby bowl?” Baxter asked, clueless.
When a couple eats together, the boyfriend splits off a little in a small bowl for the girlfriend. That’s the baby bowl. No love, no baby bowl.”
Baxter: “…”
No comprehension. No respect.
Medea snapped a photo and posted it to her Moments, captioning it with Gideon’s words:
From Mr. He’s baby bowl.]
liza had just finished breakfast and was heading upstairs when Sadie messaged her, saying she was already sick to her stomach first thing in the morning.
What happened?” Eliza asked.
adie sent a screenshot of Medea’s post.
liza glanced at it and commented objectively, “Dating and still can’t manage a full meal?”
Fliza, your roasts are always so on point!”
liza: “Why are you goofing off and gossiping during work hours?”
ladie: “…I’m out, I’m out.”
3y late morning, after the conference closing ceremony, Eliza was preparing to head back to Washington when Vegas secretary delivered her an invitation to he New York Chamber of Commerce 30th Anniversary Gala
Vega’s gala–something countless people dreamed of attending.
Eliza immediately changed her flight and asked Belle to book her an appointment with a renowned 6 City stylist to do her hair and makeup
She needed to show up looking impeccable.
While she was getting styled, Baxter messaged her, asking when she was leaving for the airport.
“I’m not going back yet, I’ve got something to do,” she replied.
Baxter felt a wave of disappointment. He’d thought it would be another chance to spend time with her.

Chapter 168
But since things were as they were, he could only head back first.
Downstairs checking out, he saw Gideon, Calvin, and Medea already waiting in the lobby.
“Come on, hurry up. We’re all waiting on you,” Gideon urged.
‘On my way.”
While they waited, Xander texted Medea, asking if she was heading back to Washington.
She replied she was, already on route to the airport.
I was going to take the same flight, but I’ll be staying another day for Mr. Vega’s gala.”
lander, who hadn’t managed to spend time with her this trip because of Calvin, had only been able to watch her from afar.
Seeing his message, Medea’s heart skipped. She asked quickly, “The Mr. Vega you mean–is that Mr. Vega?”
Yes.”
Ier grip on her phone tightened, and she asked Calvin eagerly, “Did you know Mr. Vega is hosting a gala tonight?”
Yes,” Calvin answered, his sharp, handsome face unreadable.
Did you get an invitation?”
Yes.”
Then why aren’t you going?”
I was Mr. Vega’s gala!
le looked at her silently.
nd she realized he wasn’t going because of her.
