She added, “Even though we only met today, I’ve heard about you for a while. I know you have the ability to make BroadTech thrive. I’ll feel at ease putting it in your hands.”

It must have been Vega who spoke of her before.

They chatted a while longer. Seeing Mrs. Vega’s fatigue, Eliza ended the conversation herself, urging her to rest.

When Eliza left the room, she ran into Xander, who had been waiting a long time.

Lander sneered. “Perhaps you don’t know–she has no real ability. Her academic background is hardly worth mentioning. Are you really planning to hand roadTech over to someone so utterly unqualified?”

Mrs. Vega’s brows knit, her gaze cooling. “It seems you harbor a bias against Miss Grant. Is there some misunderstanding between you two?”

Cander’s disdain grew. “No misunderstanding. I don’t know her well. I’ve just heard things about her… about the way she conducts herself. And I think she’s lot a good person.”

Ars. Vega leaned back against her cushions, her expression now openly cold. “Your words contradict themselves. You admit you don’t know her, yet you claim o know what kind of person she is. How can you make such a judgment?”

Lander hadn’t expected Mrs. Vega to be so partial toward Eliza. He thought he hadn’t been obvious enough, so he laid it bare:
