Seven Years a Fool One Day a Queen (Kristine and Colton) novel Chapter 2

Chapter 2

“Yes! That’s the name!Sadie didn’t notice Eliza’s reaction and kept gossiping excitedly. “You know her? What’s her deal?”

Eliza quickly composed herself, though her fingertips were still trembling slightly. She tried to keep her voice steady. “Nope, never heard of her.

She grabbed her mug and headed to the water station.

News of the hire spread like wildfire through the company, with people constantly coming to Eliza for the inside scoop.

Eliza was getting tired of deflecting when she finally snapped, “If you’re all so curious, why not ask President Young directly?

The moment the words left her mouth, the entire executive floor went dead silent. Then a soft voice spoke up.

Calv, your employees sure have quite the temper.”

Eliza looked toward the voice and felt her heart clench at the sight of two people standing side by side.

Calvin’s eyes swept coldly over Eliza, his tone flat and businesslike as always. “Everyone, I’d like you to meet Medea, our new Director of

Investment Division Three. She’ll be handling all Division Three projects moving forward.”

Medea gracefully greeted everyone, her voice warm. “Looking forward to working with you all.”

She’d even thoughtfully prepared welcome gifts for everyone – elegant office supply sets. When it was Eliza’s turn, Medea handed her a

capybara–shaped mouse pad.

“Oh?Medea glanced at the wrist rest on Eliza’s desk with surprise. “Calv helped me pick out all these welcome gifts. What a coincidence that

we got the same thing!”

She turned back to Calvin. “Who knew you two had such similar taste.”

Calvin’s gaze lingered on Eliza’s desk for a split second before looking away. “Secretary Grant, show Director Wynn around.”

Behind her back, Eliza’s hands clenched into fists, her nails nearly digging into her palms.

Of course, President Young.” Her voice sounded calm, but only she knew each word was being forced through gritted teeth.

As his secretary, she really had no grounds to refuse. But as a woman, personally escorting her rival to the position she’d always dreamed of felt

so absurd she almost wanted to laugh out loud.

After showing Medea around the company, the woman asked to see her office.

That office was all too familiar to Eliza – she’d personally supervised its renovation just a month ago, incorporating every detail to her own taste. The cream–colored curtains, warm wooden furniture, and that potted pothos she’d carefully selected.

“This office is really nice cozy and functional.” Medea looked around approvingly. Plus it’s so close to Calv’s office. Communication will be super convenient.”
