It was so late–who could it be?
Eliza hesitated for a moment, walking toward the door. When she saw who it was, her eyes immediately lit up with joy. She eagerly opened the door.
“Babe, what are you doing here?!”
Belle, drenched from the rain, rushed inside without even bothering to grab her suitcase. She threw her arms around Eliza and buried her face in her neck,
unwilling to let go.
Eliza immediately sensed that something was off with her. She embraced Belle and instinctively began to sway her body side to side, trying to comfort her.
“Have you eaten yet?”
“No, I’m starving!”
“How about we go get some skewers?”
“Sounds great!” Belle replied. “And let’s have a drink too.”
“No problem!” Eliza used her foot to pull the suitcase inside, then added. “Let’s go to that place we always go.”
1
“Perfect.”
“Can I go change clothes first?” Belle asked, still clinging to Eliza.
“Come on, I’ve seen every inch of you. Don’t be so shy,” Eliza teased.
Half an hour later, the two of them were sitting at the skewers shop less than two hundred meters from Washington University, enjoying their food.
The owner was still the same, and the taste was as familiar as ever. However, the two women had long since shed the youthful innocence of their college days.
Both of them had a high tolerance for alcohol. After a few beers, they felt bored and Belle ordered some hard liquor.
Eliza smiled and said, “Bring me some too.”
Belle gave her a puzzled look, but Eliza explained, “Tomorrow is the weekend, no need to get up early for work.”
Belle knew that Eliza was a workaholic and that she didn’t really have weekends, but she understood the real reason–she just wanted to spend time with her.
The two of them began to reminisce about their college days, sharing old stories.
1 sull remember how busy you were back then. You’d go to class if there was one, and if not, you’d go to help Calvin. like some kind of perpetual motion machine. You didn’t even seem to know what fatigue was. After two months, even though we lived in the same dorm, we barely spoke ten sentences
Belle chuckled, “In our second year, one night you didn’t come back to the dorm. I knew right away you were in his bed! You don’t know how I felt, it was like my house had been robbed!”
The next day, when you came back, your fare was so pale, and you were shivering with pain in bed I realized something was wrong and rushed you to the hospital. When the doctor said your ovarian cyst had ruptured, I almost went to kill Calvin myself!”
“Alright, enough. Don’t be rude. Fliza didn’t want to relive those memories
That’s what friends like Belle were like Even when you didn’t want to face your past, they’d still make fun of you
Belle smirked, “What did I say back then? I said, he becomes the ex, and you’ll behavel”
Eliza admitted, “It was indeed my past!”
Although
“Although Calvin has turned the page on you, I still feel sorry for you,”
Mbehav
Belle added, her voice softer now. She couldn’t forgive Calvin for what he had done to Eliza
Chapter 227
“Alright, enough about me. What about you? Has something happened?” Eliza poured Belle some more liquor, finally voicing her concerns.
Belle’s smile faltered for a moment, then she sighed,
7 thought I had been a great actress, but it looks like I still have a long way to go.”
She had thought she was doing a great job hiding her emotions, but apparently, Eliza could see right through her.
“It’s not a big deal. You know how messy our industry is,” Belle said, sounding dejected.
Eliza frowned. “Did you run into any unspoken rules?”
“Yeah,” Belle replied with a helpless expression. “If he were handsome, I’d let it slide, but this guy is ugly as hell. How dare he try to use his money and status to pull this stunt? I threw a drink in his face, and now I still feel disgusted thinking about it!”
Just as she finished speaking, her phone rang.
It was her manager calling. Belle didn’t answer but already knew what was coming.
She considered turning off her phone, but Eliza answered it for her.
Where are you, Belle?” the manager barked on the other end. “You need to come apologize to him right now! I fought hard to get you this resource, and this is how you treat the investor?”
Do you know what a privilege it is that he’s interested in you? And you threw a drink in his face, calling him a fat pig! How could you behave like that? Do you think you’re above all this?”
Eliza was losing patience. She directly replied, “Go ahead, fire her.”
The manager’s voice immediately became aggressive, “Who are you? Why are you answering for her?”
“You don’t need to worry about who I am, but I have to remind you that coercing an artist to participate in these kinds of activities is illegal. We reserve the right to pursue legal action,” Eliza said calmly.
The manager laughed loudly on the other end, “Do you have evidence that we forced an artist into this? Let me tell you, Belle signed a ten year contract with us. if she doesn’t comply with the company’s arrangements, it’s a breach of contract, and we will ask her to pay the penalty!”
Diza’s expression remained unchanged. “Ill pay the penalty, but I will also pursue your legal responsibility. This phone call alone is evidence.
The manager, realizing Fliza might have recorded the conversation, immediately became nervous and hung up.
Belle chewed on a skewer, shaking her head. “You’ve acted too impulsively, Eliza. The penalty is really high.”
If money can solve the problem, it’s not really a problem,” Eliza took the bamboo skewer out of her hand.
Belle’s eyes lit up A sugar daddy? Please take care of me!
“Don’t let this kind of thing ruin your mood 111 have a lawyer handle the contract termination, and I even set up a company for you, where I’ll sign only yu
as an artist.
I’m clinging to you for life! Never letting yo
With Eliza backing her up, Belle’s worries vanished, and the two of them drank and laughed out their epirits were test they let the shatrat spirits.
The next day, before leaving the house, Eliza told helle she was heading to the office. But as soon as she arrived at the company she had contact Belle’s agency.
The agency, a well established company in the industry, was well known for dealing with these kinds of matters, but they didn’t take Les seriously and weir extremely arrogant
Miza didn’t waste any time.
Chapter 227
“Let’s get to the point. How much is the penalty?”
The agency tried to avoid the issue. “Sorry, Miss Grant. Belle is an artist we’ve spent considerable resources on cultivating. We won’t let her go so easily.”
“One million.”
Belle had mentioned this amount before.
“It’s not about money.”
Two million.”
Eliza wasn’t going to let Belle waste another second on these people, so she went straight to the point.
The person on the other end was silent for a moment. “This really isn’t about money.”
Three million, and I suggest you take the offer,” Eliza said, her patience completely gone.
Twenty minutes later, Eliza called Belle. “Babe, have you come up with a name for your new company yet?”
“How about Stir–Fried Yellow Chives with Eggs“?”
Eliza frowned. “Are you sure you want to name it that?”
“Huh? I was asking if you want to have stir–fried yellow chives with eggs for dinner. I’m at the supermarket buying groceries.”
Eliza paused. “Alright, whatever you make, I’ll eat.”
Belle grabbed a bunch of yellow chives, paid, and was about to leave when she bumped into two people. She quickly took a photo and excitedly called Eliza.
Thinking that Belle had finally decided on a name for the new company, Eliza was about to ask her about it, but instead, Belle said in an excited voice.
Babe Guess what I just took a picture of?”
