Seven Years a Fool One Day a Queen (Kristine and Colton) novel Chapter 379

At that moment, Gideon’s heart was practically lodged in his throat.

He even had the urge to reach over and cover Calvin’s eyes.

But he didn’t have the nerve.

In the end, all he could do was call out to him worriedly. Calvare you okay?

The second he asked it, though, he felt it was a stupid question.

How could Calvin possibly be okay right now?

Calvin didn’t say anything, but he truly was not okay.

What he had just seen had felt like a blow straight to the head, cooling him down in an instant-

and draining every last bit of strength out of him.

So he simply stood there.

Able to do nothing.

Capable of nothing.

The dull ache in his chest grew heavier and heavier, pressing against his lungs until he could barely breathe.

It wasn’t until Eliza and Vega got into the car and drove away that he seemed to come back to himself.

Seeing him so defeated, Gideon suddenly regretted encouraging him to chase after Eliza.

Before, there had been no hope at all, and Calvin had lived like a walking corpse.

But now, it was as though he was being torn back and forth between hope and despair, his whole heart ripped open until it was nothing but blood and flesh.

It was too cruel.

Calvhow about we just go back to the island?Gideon said with difficulty, trying to persuade him.

Calvin slowly closed his eyes. A wave of helplessness spread through his entire body, until even the nerves down half his arm had gone numb.

He held that position for a long while before finally speaking.

I’m not going back.

On the drive back to home, Vega mentioned the Blake family dinner to Eliza.

It was for Old Master Blake’s birthday.

They were planning to invite close friends and relatives to a hotel for a meal.

Even though Mrs. Vega had passed away, Vega was still the Blake family’s son in law, so there was no avoiding the gathering.

What Vega meant was that he hoped Eliza would accompany him to the dinner.

One more performance.

One more act, so that Kim would finally give up completely.

Chapter 579

At the end of the day, she’s still Evie’s sister. I can’t be too heartless.

That was why he hadn’t stopped the Blake family from pulling Kim out of the psychiatric hospital.

He was taking his late wife’s feelings into account.

Even though he knew the Blake family was using that fact to make all sorts of demands of him.

Eliza understood.

It was a simple enough favor, so she agreed to help Vega out.

After dinner, Ophelia seemed to get sleepy.

On the ride back, she fell asleep in Eliza’s arms.

Vega looked rather surprised when he saw it.

Ophella trusts you a lot.

Eliza gently stroked Ophelia’s hair. She says she feels very safe when she’s with me.

Something shifted in Vega’s eyes. He murmured softly. That’s good.

Eliza’s attention was entirely on Ophelia and she didn’t notice the deeper meaning in his gaze.

Vega, meanwhile, turned to look out the window.

The only thing Evie had never been able to let go of before she died was Ophelia.

So all these years, he had devoted himself wholeheartedly to taking care of her.

That single thought had been what kept him going.

If Ophelia had someone she could be entrusted to

then maybe

he could go find Evie.

Gideon really did have some skills.

He somehow managed to find out that Eliza would be accompanying Vega to Old Master Blake’s birthday dinner.

Since it wasn’t a formal banquet, there were no invitations or anything like that.

Gideon was a little troubled. How were they supposed to sneak in?

Calvin said, We’ll just go directly.

Gideon blinked. You have ties to the Blake family?

Calvin replied. Does kicking four of his favorite youngest daughter’s ribs broken count?

Gideon fell silent at once.

And the silence was deafening.

He was now seriously wondering whether the Blake family would have them thrown straight out of the restaurant tomorrow

Chapter 379

No, but why did you kick his youngest daughter? And that hard? She’s a woman!

Gideon truly couldn’t understand.

He didn’t remember Caly having a habit of hitting women.

A sharp, icy coldness entered Calvin’s eyes.

Because she laid a hand on Eliza.

Gideon understood instantly.

Four ribsShe deserved it.

The next day, when Eliza accompanied Vega to the Blake family birthday dinner, Kim was standing at Tristan Blake’s side.

She had completely changed up her usual style and was wearing a plain white velvet dress.

A few pale orchid branches on it, the colors so light they looked as though they had been softened by morning mist.

Elegant.

But also very familiar.

Eliza saw through Kim’s little scheme at a glance.

She was deliberately imitating Mrs. Vega’s style of dress and appearance.

Even Vega stopped in his tracks.

Eliza heard him softly murmur, Evie.

The moment Tristan saw Vega, he immediately greeted him with a smile. Vega, come in.

Kim turned around, and the look in her eyes when she saw Vega was full of delight. Vega.

But when her gaze landed on Eliza, it sharpened several degrees.

This was the example of a poor imitation.

Even if she resembled Mrs. Vega, and even if she deliberately copied the way Mrs. Vega dressed and carried herself-

there was still a world of difference between them.

Vega dearly realized that too.

His eyes turned sharp as blades chilled in frost.

He ignored Kim completely. After greeting Tristan, he led Eliza to their seats.

He didn’t look at Kim again even once.

Kim, meanwhile, felt both wronged and resentful.

She believed it was only because Eliza was here that Vega refused to give her so much as a glance.

Eliza didn’t forget the purpose of the evening. The whole time, she kept up an intimate sort of interaction with Vega.

During that time, she felt countless daggerlike looks coming from Kim.

Though it was only an ordinary birthday dinner, the Blake family had still invited quite a lot of people.

Chapter 379

There were ten full tables.

iza and Vega were seated at the main table.

As for Gideon and Calvin, the restaurant’s staff had arranged them at one of the last tables.

Quite far from Eliza, which was why she never noticed them.

The moment Calvin sat down, he heard the guests beside him talking about Vega and Eliza.

See that? That’s Vega’s fiancée. She’s gorgeous, has a great temperament, and I heard she owns several big companies on the mainland. Very rich too.

Looking at them together, they really do suit each other.

Exactly. Look how close they are. When I went over to congratulate Old Master Blake just now, I even saw her peeling shrimp for Vega and feeding him. Their elationship must be incredibly good.

Back then, Vega and the Blake family’s eldest daughter were very loving too. And now Miss Blake’s been dead only a few years, and he’s already found new

>ve.

That’s just oldfashioned of you. Mrs. Vega has already been gone for five years. Mr. Vega only found someone new nowthat’s already more than decent. Look

other men. Some bring the next woman home before their wife’s first seven days are even over. That’s what’s really chilling.

he more they talked, the more animated they became.

hen suddenly, Gideon stretched his hand across in front of them.

then they all turned to stare at him in shock, he smiled innocently. I’m getting the wine.

e took the red wine and nudged Calvin. Calv, give me the glass. Stop keep squeezing it. It’s going to shatter.

nly then did Calvin loosen his grip on the wineglass.

low about you just drink water instead-

ideon didn’t even finish speaking before Calvin snatched the bottle away and poured himself a glass.

lled to the brim.

nd just as Gideon was about to tell him to take it easy, Calvin tipped his head back and drained the whole thing in one go.

deon:

this rate, he was definitely going to get drunk.

alv

he doesn’t like peeling shrimp. She doesn’t like any seafood that has to be peeled by hand, because she hates the smell it leaves on her fingers.

nd yetshe had peeled shrimp for Vega herself.
