Victor and the others’ expressions turned cold, as if they were about to put up a sign that said “Not Welcome.”

Allan took a step forward, his face a mix of cocky and ruthless. He shoved his hands in his pockets and slammed his chest into Conrad’s shoulder. He said, “Let’s talk here.”

Conrad felt his shoulder was about to snap.

Meanwhile, Broderick had just finished talking to Stella.

Stella signed the document with one hand, her face indifferent, then glanced up at Conrad. “What do you want?” she asked.

Conrad handed two invitations over.

He said, “These are for you and Mr. Gray. Please, I’m asking you as a favor.”

Stella lowered her lashes, her eyes landing on the invitations.

They were for a luxury club in Haliville, with golf, horseback riding, archery, and all sorts of fancy activities. But the real catch was that it was the Gray family’s place.

And the event was set for the day right before the anniversary of Eric and the others’ deaths.

“The Gray family is behind this, aren’t they?” Stella asked, her voice flat, giving nothing away.

Conrad let out a low, deep chuckle. He said, “Nothing gets past you, Ms. Carter. What’s wrong? Don’t tell me you’re afraid to take it?”

He threw on an over-the-top look of surprise and added, “Seriously?”

Allan turned his head to look at Stella.

Stella gave a carefree little laugh, beating Allan to the punch. She asked, “Oh? Who’s going?”

Allan frowned.

Conrad’s eyes gleamed as he replied, “Mostly the sons and daughters of Haliville’s top families. They’re all very keen on my chips and the upcoming smart robot.”

As he said this, Conrad wore a look of smug pride. He cast a glance at Stella, but when he saw her perfectly composed face, completely unfazed, his eyes darkened.

He couldn’t find even a trace of admiration or awe in her.

But that only made Conrad’s urge to conquer her grow even stronger.

After all, in his mind, those who threw themselves at him were just cheap, disposable goods, easily replaced at any time.

“Well, isn’t that a coincidence?” Stella drawled, tilting her head lazily as her eyes lingered on the invitations, her look full of meaning.

Conrad looked confused.

Stella chuckled softly and said, “I’ve got a smart robot myself.”

Conrad replied, “Oh? You do?”

Conrad replied so offhandedly, talking down to Stella like she was a child. Anyone with half a brain could tell he was just patronizing her.

To Conrad, unless it came from his own lab, any so-called “smart robot” was just for show; they were nothing but a cheap trick in his eyes.

Stella said, “His name is Big Ben.”

Conrad gave a half-hearted “mm-hmm,” barely listening.

Victor and others suddenly remembered that super-intelligent robot from the island, the one that tried to give Landen mouth-to-mouth.

Levi grumbled, “So that the robot’s name.

“Well, it is indeed really smart.

“After living with Sebastian for so long, it picked up his bad habits, too. No wonder it has gotten so good at throwing shade.

“That guy dumped all his attitude into the robot.”

Stella spoke up, her tone unusually earnest as she defended Sebastian. She said, “Sebastian never talks with that snarky attitude.”

Levi and others thought, ‘Wow, you really are wearing some thick rose-colored glasses.

Stella added, “Actually, if anyone’s got a snarky mouth around here, it’s me.”

The old men all froze for a moment, watching Allan nod away like a bobblehead.

When Allan finally snapped out of it, he found several pairs of eyes locked right onto him.

Of all the stares, Stella’s was the sharpest: her eyes practically felt like laser beams boring into him.

Allan panicked.

Luckily, Stella couldn’t be bothered to argue. She turned her gaze back to Conrad and asked, “Conrad, mind if I bring Big Ben with me tomorrow?”

Conrad pushed his glasses up and grinned. He said, “So, Ms. Carter, does that mean you’ll actually show up at the club tomorrow?”

He thought, ‘Honestly, as long as she comes, she could bring whoever she wants.’

Stella just smiled without saying anything, then, the next moment, she reached for the invitation in Conrad’s hand.

But she couldn’t pull it free on the first try.

Conrad instinctively tightened his grip on the other end.

His gaze grew darker and more intense as he said, “Ms. Carter.”

To the onlookers, the way they were both holding the invitation gave off a definite flirty vibe.

Stella couldn’t help but feel a little disgusted inside.

She gave Conrad a blank look, withdrew her hand, and said, “Hold on.”

She glanced up at the sky, timed it perfectly, and raised her hand.

A breeze kicked up, and a storm cloud rolled in out of nowhere, settling right above everyone. One could just make out the low rumble of thunder overhead.

A sudden bolt of lightning struck with uncanny precision, hitting the huge tree right next to Conrad!

Allan thought, ‘I knew she could do it!’

Conrad stared in a daze at the branch that had just been struck by lightning, his rock-solid faith in science starting to crack. That cocky, flirtatious smirk froze on his face, morphing into an almost cartoonish look of stunned disbelief.

Stella asked, “So, what were you about to say?”

Her icy stare locked onto Conrad, making him squirm.

Conrad quickly handed over the two invitations, all his swagger gone. Now, he was nothing but respectful, not daring to act up even a little.

Broderick, watching from the sidelines, snorted to himself, ‘Seriously? Is that it?

‘With guts that tiny, he actually thinks he can hit on Stella?

‘What a dumbass.

Stella glanced at the invitations with a touch of disdain.

Without a word, Broderick pulled out the gentleman’s handkerchief from his suit pocket, unfolded it neatly, and pinched the invitations between his fingers.
