Stella sauntered over, totally relaxed. Blake’s name was on the screen.

She called him back.

But then, Lucas scampered over to the kitchen island, pitter-pattering as he climbed up onto the stool.

His tiny hands trembled as he poured out a glass of water, then he hurried back, looking up at Stella and holding the glass up as high as he could for her.

“Huh!” Lucas said.

“Thanks,” Stella said, taking the glass and giving his chubby cheek another gentle squeeze.

Blake said, “Have you heard the news?”

Stella replied, “What?” she drawled lazily, flopping onto the couch. Lucas instantly glued himself to her, curling up on her lap like a little kitten and pawing at her hands.
