Shadows Between Us (Stella and Sebastian) novel Chapter 279

Chapter 279 Are You Sure?

Stella glanced up lazily, locking eyes with the tough guy in front of her, his gaze fixed on her like a spotlight. Stella didn’t say a word.

She caught that familiar obsession burning in his eyes. Stella didn’t even bother to respond. She just acted like she hadn’t seen him and strode right past.

“Stella!” Fabian bellowed, his voice echoing through the air.

Fabian, who’d just been blatantly ignored, stood ramrod straight with his hands behind his back, eyes locked on Stella. He shouted, “Fight me! Right now! Please!” His voice thundered, shaking the whole place.

Dennis didn’t know what to say.

Eliel was left speechless.

Vincent could only stare in disbelief.

The three of them thought at the same time, ‘Fabian, seriously, could you warn us before you go courting death?’

Stella paused, turned her head, her eyes flickering with something unreadable. “What’s your name?”

Fabian puffed out his chest. “Fabian! Captain of the Red Shadow Fourth Squad!”

Stella raised an eyebrow. “You want to fight me?”

Fabian nodded. “Yes!”

Stella arched an eyebrow. “Why?”

“Because you’re strong!” Fabian said, all proud and clueless, like a big dumb jock.

Emily hugged her plain plant tight and called out, “Mr. Gray’s strong, too. Why not fight him instead?”

Fabian answered, “I tried! But I lost!”

Emily was left speechless.

‘Guess honesty really is the ultimate move,’ Emily thought.

Emily just gave Fabian a thumbs-up, speechless.

“Ms. Carter, don’t get mad. Fabian’s a real Razorstrike. He’d chAllange even a barking dog to a fight,” Dennis tried to smooth things over.

Eliel was left speechless.

Vincent could only stare in disbelief.

They thought, ‘Just shut up!’

An old yellow dog was wandering around the camp and strolled right past the group, lifting its head.

The dog gave Fabian the death stare, eyes locked and unblinking.

“Woof!!” The bark was pure provocation.

‘Was that a challange?’ Fabian thought, hyped.

Fabian stared right back, and Emily was bracing herself, half expecting him to go completely psycho and rip the poor dog to shreds. But instead, he dropped into a squat, out-intimidating the mutt.

“Woof!” The dog barked, full of attitude.

Stella was speechless!

Emily was left speechless.

They just stood there, watching this man and dog have a full-on stare-down, like it was some bizarre showdown.

Chapter 279 Are You Sure?

Stella and Emily were just completely dumbfounded by the whole thing.

The other Red Shadow guys couldn’t help but cover their faces in embarrassment.

They thought, ‘This is so humiliating!

‘Seriously, this is beyond embarrassing!’

When the old yellow dog finally slunk off with its tail between its legs, Fabian shot a triumphant look and smirked, feeling pretty pleased with himself.

Can you take me on? Dream on!’ Fabian thought, full of swagger.

But in the next second, he instantly put his poker face back on.

‘Mr. Gray always told me to keep it low-key, Fabian reminded himself.

He thought, ‘Don’t get ahead of myself.’

Fabian looked at Stella, cupped his fists in a martial salute, and said, “Ms. Carter, if you’re worried, I’ll let you have the first three moves!”

Vincent and Eliel were left speechless, staring at him in disbelief.

After witnessing firsthand how Stella had wiped the floor with Mike and his gang, the two of them had no idea where Fabian found the nerve to offer her three free shots.

They thought, ‘Did he get a secret stash of courage or something?’

Vincent and Dennis shot Stella a nervous glance, bracing for her to lose her cool, but she just looked over at Dennis, all lazy and half-asleep, and drawled, “What did you call him again?”

Stella asked, not even bothering to sound interested.

Dennis hesitated, “A barking dog…”

Stella cut him off. “Before that.”

Dennis mumbled, “A Razorstrike?”

Stella suddenly grinned, something clearly amusing her. She started rolling up her sleeves, nice and slow, like she was getting ready for a show.

On the other side, Sebastian had just gotten out of the car, Balthazar holding him up, but he felt something and looked up.

The two of them locked eyes.

Stella gave him a lazy, knowing smirk.

Sebastian frowned, gesturing toward her injured hand. Balthazar paused, following his gaze. And when he caught sight of that striking, beautiful face, he couldn’t hide his surprise. “Who’s she?”

After the ambush at the Peacekeeper Camp, every soldier passing by stopped in their tracks, all eyes on Fabian and the girl, who casually rolled up her sleeves, their faces full of curiosity.

The soldiers thought, half-shocked, half-eager to see the drama unfold. ‘Seriously, what’s Razorstrike doing now? Is he really picking a fight with a girl?’

When Balthazar thought Sebastian would stay silent, the usually cold man could only shake his head and admit, “She’s my princess.”

Balthazar was stunned.

Stella turned her gaze away, her fair, slender forearm out in the open. She didn’t pay the growing crowd of curious soldiers any mind, just fixed her eyes on Fabian. “You sure about this?”

Fabian nodded, all earnest and a little clueless. “Surel”

Stella’s voice was cool and casual. “You’re really giving me three free shots?”

Fabian nodded again, unfazed. “Yep, three moves. Go for it!”

Vincent suddenly yelled, “No! Ms. Carter, seriously, don’t! He’s an idiot. Don’t even bother with him!” ‘If she really gets three free shots, Fabian’s a dead man for sure, Vincent thought, freaking out.

Fabian shot him a glare and said, “When a man says something, he sticks to it. No backing down!”

Vincent thought it was his end day.

‘He’s a lost cause. Might as well dig his grave now!’ Vincent thought, facepalming hard.

Stella turned her head and saw Eliel bowing to her three times in a row, looking absolutely miserable. If circumstances had allowed, he probably would have dropped to his knees right then and there.

“Forget it,” Stella said, her tone indifferent, to spare Eliel the embarrassment. She said, “I don’t need you to give me three moves. If you can survive a single move from me, I’ll count it as your win.”

Fabian was stunned.

Fabian thought, ‘What the hell?’

The crowd of soldiers exploded into chatter, and the commotion drew even more onlookers. Even Charles, Nathan, and Allan, who were busy with the meds, couldn’t help but look up, curious about the drama unfolding. Allan didn’t know what to say.

‘Holy sh*t, Allan thought, totally stunned.

Emerson looked a little worried and said, “Is that Fabian? The strongest guy in all five Red Shadow squads?” Allan nodded. “Yeah.”

Emerson turned to him and said, “You sure she’s gonna be okay?”
