Shadows Drift Beyond Memory by Xarin Vale novel Chapter 53

Chapter 6

Drew left, hollow and shattered.

When he got home, Marissa greeted him with hysterical rage.

Where the hell were you sneaking off to in the middle of the night?

In the past, Drew would’ve stripped and let her inspect him, groveling for forgiveness.

But this time, he swung his arm and slapped her across the face.

The sharp crack echoed.

It took her a full two minutes to process what happened.

She glared at Drew with murderous intent:

What the hell is wrong with you?

You cheat and still have the audacity to act out?

In that moment, Drew finally woke up.

Marissa wasn’t lashing out because she loved him too much and felt insecure.

She never respected him at all.

She saw him as trashsomeone to degrade and humiliate at will.

Only now did he realizemy caution, my restraintthat was proof of my love.

I wasn’t boring. I wasn’t unadventurous.

I was just so careful with my loveterrified that he would leave.

Marissa, I gave you everything. How could you see me like this?

Drew was on the verge of breaking down, unable to face the truth.

Marissa laughed contemptuously:

Stop pretending. You think I don’t know you?

You let me strip you and whip you right in front of your fiancée. You let me do whatever I wanted while she was dying inside. So

what’s with the act now?

Deep down, you’re nothing but trash. You only exist to be my dog.

Drew slapped her again.

Chapter 6

This time, Marissa didn’t hold back.

She pulled out her phone and made a call. Soon, several burly men barged in. Without a word, they tied Drew to the couch.

Marissa Vaughn!

Are you insane? What are you doing?!

Marissa grinned wickedly, slapping his face hard, her voice dripping with contempt:

When a dog disobeys, you beat it within an inch of its life!

So it remembers who the master is!

She waved her hand. The men immediately began punching and kicking Drew, carefully avoiding vital areas but hitting where it hurt most.

Only when Marissa grew bored did she tell them to stop.

Drew hung his head, his body covered in bruisesblack, blue, purplenot a single unmarked spot.

He lifted his swollen eyes and glared at Marissa with hatred:

You’ll get what’s coming to youI was so blind!

Marissa sneered dismissively.

You were the one who said you’d be my dog for life. A lifetime means a lifetimenot a day, not a minute, not a second less. As long as you’re breathing, you’re mine!

Drew struggled desperately, trying to break free from the ropes, but it only earned him more brutal treatment.

Finally, he passed out from the pain.

In his haze, he thought he heard Marissa talking to someone.
