They both yelled out in alarm, but they seemed entirely frozen in shock, neither man making a single move to catch or support Nelson.
Fortunately, the chair was directly behind him. Nelson didn't hit the floor; instead, he slumped heavily into the seat.
Nelson clutched his chest, his face contorted in agony as his muscles spasmed.
Arthur finally hurried forward, feigning deep concern. "Nelson! Nelson, where is your medication? What do we do! Hurry, Felix, find his pills!"
Felix acted as though he had just snapped out of a daze, frantically rummaging across the desk. Finding no emergency medication, he squatted down, yanked open the drawers, and began wildly throwing things around.
The contents of the drawers spilled all over the floor, yet somehow, after what felt like an eternity, they completely failed to find anything. The study was filled only with Nelson's rapid, desperate, struggling gasps for air.
It wasn't until Nelson's eyes rolled back and he passed out completely that Arthur seemed to finally remember what to do, shouting loudly at Felix.
"Go get help!"
By the time the butler rushed in with the private family doctor, ten full minutes had passed. The only reason help arrived this quickly was because the doctor lived permanently in the adjacent building.
The butler ushered the nervously acting Porter father and son out of the study. The doors clicked shut, blocking their view of the emergency resuscitation efforts.
But just before the door closed, Felix clearly saw the doctor shining a penlight directly into Nelson's eyes.
Nelson hadn't reacted at all. Felix turned to look at Arthur.
"Dad, is the old man actually going to..."
"Shut your mouth! Nelson is blessed with good fortune. He'll definitely pull through this crisis."
Yet, no sounds of a successful revival came from inside the room. Instead, the butler rushed out frantically to call for an ambulance and summon more help, plunging the manor into total chaos.
Twenty minutes later, Arthur and Felix watched as Nelson was carried out on a stretcher and loaded into the ambulance.
The two of them left the Madden estate and got into their car.
Felix instantly couldn't contain himself any longer. "Dad, do you think that old geezer is really going to wake up this time? From what I saw in there, it looked like he was already gone."
Arthur shot him a sharp frown, then threw a pointed glance at the driver in the front seat.
It was a glaring warning.
Felix waved it off dismissively.
"Dad, you're being way too paranoid. Chen has been with us for years, he's one of our own..."
"Shut up! If I hadn't been paranoid, if I hadn't spent decades sucking up and playing the obedient servant, do you really think you'd have the status you do today? Do you think you'd be sitting here acting like a big shot? Wipe that look off your face right now!"
Arthur barked furiously. Felix didn't dare argue further, though he still felt it was unnecessary. He quickly masked his expression and replied smoothly.
"You're right, Dad. Don't worry, once we get to the hospital, I'll look so devastated you'd think my own father just died."

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring?
