Halfway through his sentence, Nelson suddenly realized something and flared up again.
"Wait a minute! Make up for what?! I never agreed to let you two date! Once this is over, you stay the hell away from my precious girl!"
Remington didn't argue with him. Instead, he chuckled and coaxed him gently.
"Yes, of course. If you don't approve, I'll spend a few more days reciting that book on proper male conduct you gifted me."
Nelson glared, practically blowing his top. He scoffed, snatching the phone right out of Jerome's hand.
"I suggest you save your breath! Memorizing it backward and forward won't do a damn thing! You're just fundamentally flawed!"
"You've barely spent any time with me; you can't just make snap judgments like that. When you come down to Zion City, I'll keep you company. We can go fishing, play some chess, and you can get to know me better. Otherwise, I simply won't accept your verdict."
Remington's words made Nelson snort in contempt.
"I'm not going! No matter how much I look at you, you'll never meet my standards!"
"Are you rejecting me so quickly because you're afraid that if you give me a chance, I might actually win you over?"
Nelson listened to Remington's teasing tone, fully aware of what was happening.
The brat was trying to goad him into it. Still, hearing that cocky, challenging voice made Nelson want to fire back. He huffed indignantly.
"Me? Afraid? Please. Do you think I'm Liz, easily swayed by a few sweet words? Fine, you just wait, kid!"
Remington's lips curled into a faint smile. "Then I'll be waiting."
Jerome stood by, raising an eyebrow.
He had to admit, Remington had some serious skills. His grandfather probably hadn't even realized it himself.
Later, even when Eartha got involved with Conrad, which infuriated Nelson enough to freeze her out for half a year...
He eventually softened when he saw how Eartha treated Andrea like her own flesh and blood. Eartha never had children of her own and poured all her love into Andrea.
Over the years, his anger had faded, and they had kept in close contact.
Nelson was also a man who never forgot a debt. He always remembered that Eartha had donated a kidney to Elsa.
Because of that one act, he had always been exceptionally lenient with her.
Now, hearing that Eartha's remaining kidney was failing and her donor had been blocked, Nelson couldn't help but feel a heavy sense of sorrow.
"Grandpa, everything happening to Eartha now is entirely her own doing. Even if she passes away from kidney failure, it's just karma. Yes, she saved Elsa, but her motives were never pure. She did it for herself. Over the years, everything she extracted from the Madden family was more than enough payment for that kidney. You really don't need to feel sad or guilty for her."

The readers' comments on the novel: Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington)
Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
