Lizetta was just reaching out to lift the boy's face when Joseph suddenly looked up and blurted out,
"Liz, stop being so nice to me... I... I..."
She raised an eyebrow. "You what? Spit it out. Why haven't you been answering my WhatsApp messages properly? Why haven't you FaceTimed me even once? And why did you run the second you saw me? What is going on with you?"
Over the past six months, Lizetta had tried reaching out to Joseph constantly.
He would either take ages to reply to her messages, claiming he had just seen them or that his phone was confiscated during study hours...
Or, after just a couple of days of texting, he'd make up an excuse and vanish completely.
And he had never, not once, picked up a video call.
He was clearly dodging her on purpose. Remington and Fiona had always maintained that Joseph went abroad with Hanna Evert Dashiell to recover.
At first, Lizetta hadn't suspected a thing, but the more she thought about it, the less sense it made.
With the Dashiell family's immense wealth, Joseph could easily have received the absolute best medical care and recovery environment right here in Zion City.
He had just had major surgery and desperately needed love and support. Why would they ship him abroad instead of keeping him near his family?
Plus, the last time Lizetta was at the Dashiell estate, she had the distinct feeling she was being secretly watched—the exact same feeling she had just experienced in the hospital room.
It was obvious. Joseph had never gone abroad; he had just been hiding from her all along.
Not to mention, Joseph used to be an absolute terror—a fearless little troublemaker who did whatever he pleased. Now look at him. He was a terrified, crying mess who hardly dared to breathe.
With a face completely riddled with guilt and panic, it would take a miracle for Lizetta not to notice something was horribly wrong.
This bizarre behavior had started right after the terrifying night she nearly died in childbirth. Coupled with the fact that Joseph was fully recovered, and that both Remington and Fiona had deliberately lied to her...
Lizetta already had her suspicions. In fact, she had practically figured it all out.
Joseph clenched his jaw, keeping his head down in complete silence.

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
