They had always spoiled her, their hearts breaking at the thought of all the hardships and coldness she had endured while growing up away from them.
This was the very first time Nelson had ever spoken to her with such a harsh tone and expression.
Lizetta's eyes instantly filled with tears, a mix of feeling wronged and intensely guilty.
But she had just checked Remington's head in the hallway. The apple had struck him hard enough to leave a swollen red welt on the back of his scalp.
Lizetta bit her lip and spoke in a small, fragile voice.
"I'm not blaming you, Grandpa. It was my fault for letting him in without your permission. But you... you shouldn't just throw things at people's heads..."
Her voice trailed off. Nelson let out a heavy snort.
"So you are blaming me!"
"No, I just..."
Before Lizetta could finish her sentence, Remington cut her off.
"Grandpa Nelson, she's just exhausted from the past few days. Let me take her out so she can rest."
Without waiting for an answer, he grabbed Lizetta's hand and pulled her forcefully toward the door.
He opened it, practically shoved her into the hallway, stepped out behind her, and shut the heavy wooden door. Only then did he look down at her.
"Does your heart ache for me that much? You're actually talking back to your grandfather for my sake?"
Lizetta glared at him. "Yes! I'm about to turn into an ungrateful brat because of you, and you're still laughing!"
The smile on Remington's lips only grew wider. He reached out and flicked her forehead lightly.
"A for courage, but you're a bit foolish, Liz!"
Lizetta gritted her teeth and scowled.
"The more you fight with him, the angrier he gets, and the more he thinks I'm a bad influence on you. If you give him a heart attack, you'll be miserable."
Lizetta obviously knew the logic behind it, but she just felt her grandfather had crossed a line.
This time it was an apple. What if he threw a glass ashtray next time? There would be blood everywhere.

The readers' comments on the novel: Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington)
Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
