Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 1239

Just as her thoughts spiraled into a chaotic mess, the bedroom door was suddenly shoved open with force.

Lizetta had drawn the blackout curtains before bed, leaving the room pitched in absolute darkness.

When the door swung open, the light from the hallway pierced the gloom, making her realize it was already daylight outside.

A tall, imposing silhouette stood in the doorway. The backlighting blurred his features, but Lizetta instantly recognized him as Remington.

She was caught off guard. "Remington? What are you..."

Before she could finish, the man moved like a hurricane. In the blink of an eye, his long legs had carried him to the side of the bed.

Before she could even react, he reached out and hauled her into a bone-crushing embrace.

He carried the damp, chilly scent of the night air, smelling as if he had rushed here from miles away without a second's rest.

His emotions were clearly spiraling out of control. He held her tighter and tighter, to the point where Lizetta could physically feel the frantic, heavy pounding of his heart against her chest.

Astonished and concerned, she instinctively wrapped her arms around him and asked,

"What's wrong? What happened?"

Her voice was soft, laced with undeniable anxiety.

She rarely saw Remington like this. The last time his emotions had shattered through his ironclad composure and he had held her like this was right after they lost Joy...

Thinking of Joy instantly brought her back to the dream she had just woken from. She gently pushed against his chest and said,

"Remington, I just had a dream. It was the very first time I dreamed of my mother, and she told me something strange. I asked her to help take care of Joy, and she told me I had to do it myself... Why do you think she would say that? Do you think our baby might... might..."

There was a desperate, impossible hope blooming in her chest, a wild theory taking shape. But she was terrified she was just being delusional, terrified that it was nothing more than an agonizing fantasy. By the end of her sentence, her voice was violently trembling.

She stared fixedly at Remington. In the dim light, her eyes were swimming with tears, yet they burned with an intense, searing brilliance.

Remington felt her agonizing hope like a physical blow. He had been in the exact same state last night.
