It was a flawless trade for her.
As long as she maintained control over the boy, she knew Remington and the Maddens would have no choice but to drag her out of this hellhole.
"Deal," Eartha said smoothly, rising from her chair.
Lizetta frowned, staring her down. "Then contact your people right now!"
Eartha simply turned to the guards, signaling she was ready to go back. Glancing over her shoulder, she shot Lizetta a taunting smirk.
"Go home. I set everything up perfectly before I was ever brought in. You'll get your precious proof within two days."
She had meticulously instructed her subordinates long ago: if anything happened to her, they were to immediately seize Ron and go off the grid.
She didn't even need to attempt bribing the cops to make a phone call; as long as the child remained hidden, she held all the cards.
She would dictate the terms from her cell, and they would have to obey.
Panic spiked in Lizetta's chest; Eartha was far more cunning and cautious than they had anticipated.
She opened her mouth to argue, but Remington squeezed her hand reassuringly and spoke in a commanding tone.
"I won't accept any photos of forged DNA reports or anything of the sort. I will verify it myself. I want a physical blood sample from him. Nothing else will suffice."
Lizetta watched Eartha nervously, but thankfully, the older woman simply offered a brief nod.
"Fine."
She had prepared for that exact demand.
On the fifth day of her incarceration, a fresh blood sample from the child would automatically be delivered to the Madden estate.
She wasn't stupid enough to contact her people from inside the precinct; that would only give Remington a digital trail to hunt them down.
As Eartha was led away, Lizetta's brows pinched together in deep distress.
"I can't believe she had this all planned out. She's so careful!"
Remington patted her hand and guided her out of the station.
Once they were in the car, he noticed she was still silent, her forehead creased with worry. He gently stroked her hair.

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
