Jerome paused, the wet wipe still in his hand.

Remington was right. If they used aliases, then Sylvia and the rest of the crew must be operating under fake names too. It was highly likely that Zack and April's forged identities came from the same source.

If they could track down the forger, they could uncover the aliases Sylvia was currently using. Finding them would be infinitely easier.

Tossing the wipe into the car's trash bin, Jerome looked at Lizetta.

"I'm heading back inside."

During the interrogation, they had asked Zack if he knew his parents' or Sylvia's current aliases, but Zack claimed ignorance, saying Sylvia kept him in the dark for his own safety.

But they had completely overlooked tracing the black-market channel that supplied the IDs in the first place.

Jerome shoved the car door open and marched back into the precinct.

From the phone, Remington's deep, soothing voice drifted out.

"Are you exhausted?"

Lizetta pulled her gaze away from the station and pressed the phone to her ear. She shook her head instinctively.

Realizing he couldn't see her, she softly replied.

"No. Why would I be? I haven't done any of the heavy lifting. You're the ones doing all the hard work."

Despite her forced lightheartedness, her voice was ragged. The raw fatigue in her tone made Remington's chest tighten.

He knew damn well she hadn't slept a wink in two days.

If they didn't find Joy soon, Remington was terrified she would collapse.

His voice softened even more.

"I'm a little tired..."

Lizetta blinked, her concern instantly spiking. "Where are you right now?"

"We combed through two more sectors last night. I'm on my way back to the estate. Close your eyes and rest with me for a bit, okay?"

His voice was hoarse, steeped in exhaustion.
