Remington was speechless.
He had always known he wasn't exactly the favorite.
Now that Joy was in the picture, he had plunged completely off the family rankings.
Looking at the energetic old woman, then at Remington's exasperated face, and finally down at Joy's rosy little cheeks, the corners of Lizetta's mouth slowly curled upward.
It felt wonderful. Everything was finally falling back into place.
"Go lie down. You're blocking Grandma and me from the sunlight."
Lizetta added her own scolding to the mix.
Remington pinched her cheek lightly before finally walking over and sitting on the adult bed.
Taking Lizetta's hand, Fiona noticed her gaze remained glued to the baby, filled with a mix of fierce love and lingering anxiety.
"Dr. Isaac said Joy should wake up in an hour or two. The poor thing went through hell these past few days. Look how much weight he's lost in his little face. We need to feed him up and get him nice and chubby again."
Hearing this, Lizetta looked up in alarm.
"Grandma, are you sure those sleeping pills won't have any lasting effects?"
Fiona offered a comforting smile. "Don't you worry. The doctors ran a full diagnostic. Besides the residual sedatives in his system—which will make him a bit drowsy for the next day or two—everything is completely normal. They've already administered treatments to flush out the lingering side effects. The doctor practically guaranteed the meds won't affect his organs or his brain. Our Joy is a smart boy; he must have fought them when they tried to force-feed him, so he didn't ingest too much."
Fiona affectionately stroked Joy's head again. Glancing over at the neighboring bed, she caught her grandson staring intently at her.
It had been several minutes, and instead of lying down, the man was just sitting up like a wooden board.

Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
