Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington) novel Chapter 948

Lizetta shared breakfast with Jerome, as usual.

She had been worried that things might be awkward between them after last night’s events and that their interactions wouldn't be as easy as they were before.

But to her surprise, those concerns were unfounded.

Jerome was evidently skilled at managing his emotions and keeping the atmosphere light. Throughout breakfast, he didn't mention anything about the previous night, carrying on as if nothing had happened at all.

As Lizetta finished her breakfast and got ready to leave for work, Wilma walked in holding a box.

"Miss Lizetta, a driver-looking fellow dropped this off. He said it was a gift for you. He practically shoved it into my hands and then took off like he was afraid I wouldn't take it. What do you want to do with it?"

Lizetta looked puzzled. She reached out to Wilma, "Let me have a look."

Just as Wilma was about to hand it over, Jerome intervened with a serious tone.

"Let me check it first."

Lizetta glanced at Jerome, who gave her a reassuring nod. "It's always better to be cautious."

Jerome obviously had concerns about the content of the package and wanted to ensure it wasn’t anything harmful.

Lizetta thought his caution was unnecessary, but seeing the determination in Jerome’s eyes, she relented with a smile. "Alright, but be careful."

Wilma handed the box to Jerome, who opened the outer cardboard to reveal an elegantly carved mahogany box inside.

"It looks like a gift," he noted.

When he opened the box, he found a delicate jade hairpin nestled in black velvet. His eyebrows rose.

As she pondered, her phone rang.

Seeing Remington's name on the display, Lizetta picked up the box and stood to take the call.

"Go on and take it," Jerome said with a knowing smile.

Lizetta returned the smile, turning to leave when Jerome added, "Remington’s car was parked outside all night. He might have stayed close by in case you needed him during the storm."

Lizetta stopped, surprised, and turned back to Jerome.

"How did you know that?" she asked.

Jerome stood up and walked towards her. "Are you asking how I knew he stayed out there all night, or how I understood his thoughts?"
