“Go ahead.”
Lizetta heard the voice of an unfamiliar middle-aged woman on the other end, her tone low and cautious, as if afraid someone might overhear.
“Mr. Dashiell, as soon as Stella walked in, Martin shattered a teacup over her head. Then he tried to have the bodyguards lock her in the basement. The whole ordeal was loud and chaotic. I’m not sure what Stella begged for in tears, but Martin finally let her go… I’m sorry, Mr. Dashiell—Martin’s extremely suspicious, so I couldn’t get any closer.”
“You did well. Don’t rush. Keep watching.”
Remington’s voice was deep and steady. The woman answered, but didn’t hang up, hesitating as if she had more to say.
“Is there something else?” Remington prompted.
“It’s… it’s about Mr. Ron. Stella’s been furious ever since she hurt her forehead. She’s been running the staff ragged, even sent the nanny who looks after Mr. Ron away. Mr. Ron just fell out of his crib and hit his head—there’s a big bump on his forehead now…”
Remington frowned slightly as he listened, but before he could respond, Lizetta suddenly sat up, her voice taut with concern.
“How’s the baby? Is he alright?”
The woman on the line was clearly startled to hear a strange young woman’s voice break in.
For a moment, there was only silence. Lizetta realized she’d interrupted, but she couldn’t help herself. The thought of that little boy falling made her chest tighten with worry.
Maybe it was because she’d held him before, or maybe it was because he was such a sweet, lovable child—about the same age as Daisy.
Whatever the reason, she couldn’t stay calm or stop worrying, even if it baffled her. By all logic, she should feel distant from that child, maybe even resentful.

The readers' comments on the novel: Shattered Illusions Love Lies and Redemption (Lizetta and Remington)
Does evil really triumph always above the good in this novel ? How comes Stella's evilness has no end? Does the author believes that by giving justice and importance to bad people like Stella will make this novel interesring? I am starting to lose my patience and ask when will the writer finally will realize that the protagonist is Lizetta and not Stella....
