Chapter 1138
Shtep
Sharon’s eyes brightened for a moment, then she frowned.
“But you just said Q is ranked first. Can he really beat Q?” she asked.
Thomas
“he Pled, “My guy doesn’t like the spotlight. He avoids the rankings entirely.”
“Is he reliable?” Sharon pressed.
“” he said.
She studied him. “Are you close?”
“Yeah. We grew up together.”
Thomas had a friend like that? Strange-ever since she’d met him, Thomas had always seemed solitary, without a circle of companions.
At the time, she’d assumed it was because of his amnesia; now that his memory had returned, he still never mentioned friends. The thought nagged at her, but she didn’t push it. Pressing would only make her seem distrustful.
Thomas must have sensed her hesitation; his long, dark lashes drooped. “He’s busy. We don’t keep in frequent touch.”
Sharon nodded. “Then please ask him for me.”
“All right.”
The next morning, barely at her desk, Thomas stopped her. “I’ve contacted him. He can meet today.”
“So soon?” Sharon asked, surprised.
“Get it dealt with early,” Thomas said. “Then we can move to the next step.”
She thought for a beat and asked, “What’s your friend’s name?”
“Liam Yale.”
“Does he use an alias?”
Thomas hesitated, then said, “…J.”
At the café, Sharon looked at the guy across from her-and she hadn’t expected him to be so young.
J, the hacker supposedly stronger than Q, looked barely out of his teens: a round, boyish face, the kind of features that belonged to a college student, not a legendary cyber ghost.
“So you’re J?” she asked tentatively.

Liam stood and shook her hand, flashing a pair of endearingly small tiger-like front teeth. “Miss McKinzie, hello. I’m Liam Yale, Thomas’s friend. I’m also… J.”
Sharon smiled. “Any friend of Thomas is mine too. No need to be formal.”
He laughed and relaxed. “All right, then I won’t be formal.”
supposed to be the best at hacking,” Sharon said. “We’re counting on you,”
‘s confidence wavered a little. “I’ll need to see the situation first to be sure I can fix it.”
“Fine, thank you.” She handed it over.
He had already brought his laptop. After a polite exchange, he opened it and began to type, theatrically tinkering with lines of code and windows that looked like indecipherable hieroglyphics to anyone not versed in the trade. He adopted a solemn expression, as if staring down a dying engine.
After about ten minutes, he stopped and looked up.
“Can you fix it?” Sharon asked softly.
He nodded. “Yes. I can. But it’ll take some time.”
He paused awhile to think, wearing a mock-omniscient air. “Give me three days. That’s the minimum.”
Sharon studied him. “Three days? You’re sure?”
Honestly, she hadn’t expected much. The assaults on her network had been launched by the current No.1 hacker -finding a reclusive expert hacker capable of beating him felt like trying to reach the sky.
So she was stunned that Liam claimed not only to be able to do it, but to do it in three days.
He scratched his head. “Well… if you’re really desperate, I can pull all-nighters and finish it in two.”
