"What are you talking about?" Diamond blurted out as she looked at the lady with a sly smile on her face and a dumbfounded expression.
The lady as if expecting her response, beamed at her as she replied, "Ma’am, we have thought hard about this and honestly, you wouldn’t want to have an ambassador that might put the foundation at risk, would you?" trying to reason with Diamond.
But was she having it?
Diamond wasn’t accepting this kind of reasoning at all.
"Dear, I know myself pretty well. I tend to be hot and short-tempered and I might even cause a scene. I mean, a lot of them would be so shocking that the world might even be turned upside down. And you want me to be the ambassador? Are you trying to close down the foundation before it even goes far?"
Diamond knows herself the best. She wasn’t the kind of person that has a good reputation at all. Her background was messy. If she didn’t have money, she would be toasted left and right just because of her past deeds.
And if she were to represent the foundation, and one day, her secrets which might spill out in the future, for example, her love of many partners, won’t she send her foundation to doom?
Because of her lifestyle, Diamond avoided at all costs to appear anywhere where the foundation was.
Apart from a few people who saw her in the beginning at that one marathon event, no one even knows that she owns the foundation at all.
Although her name can be seen when you look it up, no one can even associate the foundation with her at all. So even if she goes crazy and makes a mess, the foundation won’t be affected.
But becoming the ambassador means that her every action might affect the foundation. If something happens, won’t she put her life at risk as well?
She opened this foundation not just to help people but also to keep the system. By using the foundation, she can donate more to people without worrying about being questioned about this and that. She was worried, very worried.
When Belinda heard her daughter’s words, she was speechless for a second.
This was the first time she had heard someone so adamant about tarnishing her reputation just to avoid taking responsibility.
She understood the woman who was speaking. Diamond was popular and with her as the face of the foundation, the foundation would get popularity as well, and their work would be spread.
She makes the perfect candidate for an ambassador and just like what was mentioned, she wouldn’t let anything happen to it.
At the same time, she understood her daughter pretty well.
She gets ticked off easily like a bomb and with her lifestyle, one day it was doomed to come out. The society and the nation right now didn’t accept the kind of lifestyle that she wanted.
She could tell that her daughter was so adamant about following it. Although she faced a setback, she didn’t show any signs of giving up.
One way or the other, in the future, she would still have many sons-in-law. And when the world learns of that, honestly, she didn’t know what would happen.
That would affect everything around her. People will talk and her businesses will suffer. So, she understood why her daughter was refusing now.
But on second thoughts, why did she have to worry about things that haven’t happened yet?
"We will support you always."
"We won’t leak a single thing!"
"We will fight with the trolls if anything happens!"
"Please!"
"Please!"
Diamond propped her elbows on the table as she sighed endlessly, wishing to block her ears from the endless urging from everyone.
"Darling, everyone is on your side! Why don’t you agree to it? This old mother will stand by you always!" her mother once again coaxed, encouraging her to agree to the proposal.
Diamond raised her head to look at her mother and then at everyone else in the room.
Seeing their eyes shimmer with hope and anticipation, Diamond knew that there was no way around this matter.
Everyone had stated facts. If she can’t even trust herself on this matter, then who else should she trust?
With her thoughts resolved, she looked at the PR lady with a mischievous smile and asked, "How much am I getting paid?"
