In that moment, Leo was completely stunned.

He couldn’t believe his ears. “Dad? Mr. Thompson is your dad?”

I shot back, “What? Do I need to report to you who my parents are? Besides, think about what my last name is.”

Leo held up the fruit basket he’d prepared earlier.

I ruthlessly exposed him. “Leo Stark, we already broke up. And about your savings account-now do you believe me? I wouldn’t stoop so low as to steal your measly money.”

Leo immediately started playing the victim.

He came over all apologetic and explained, “Maya, I was wrong. I felt so guilty about yesterday that I rushed over to apologize to you first thing.”

Then he said to Dad, “Mr. Thompson, Maya and I had a little spat recently, and I’m sorry for worrying you. This is all my fault.”

Hearing this bullshit made me absolutely sick.

I said coldly, “Dad, don’t believe a word he says. Yesterday, he and Sage Campbell are the ones who beat me up like

this.”

Leo immediately explained, “Mr. Thompson, Maya is the girl I love most-how could I bear to hurt her? Yesterday’s incident had nothing to do with me.”
