Chapter 5
Chapter 5
Ethan’s stunned for a second, then laughs:
“Not marrying me? Sloane, you’ve been dreaming about this day forever.
Who else you gonna find who’s better than ME?
Who else is gonna pull you out of the gutter into high society?”
I mouth “fuck you” at him and turn away.
He’s about to grab me when bike bells start ringing everywhere.
I turn around and it’s my crew-dozens of my ride-or-dies rolling up on Citi Bikes, some wobbling like crazy, clearly haven’t touched a bike in years.
“Sloane, this hotel is bougie as hell and impossible to find! Who picks this random place for a wedding?”
“Help, my brakes aren’t working!”
“Haven’t biked in like fifteen years but I’m still killing it!”
Dylan’s at the front of the pack.
He hops off his bike, walks straight to me, and drops to one knee:
“Sloane, will you marry me?”
Ethan totally stunned. He grabs my arm, pointing at Dylan:
“Who the hell is this?! Where’d you meet this sketchy dude?”
Dylan’s just wearing a plain white button-down-no visible logos-so Ethan thinks he looks broke.
Dylan glances at him once, then ignores him completely, staring straight at me:
“Say yes, and I’ll buy out Matthews Corp as your wedding gift.”
My friends swarm around us: “Yo, y’all really dragged us here just to murder us single people with this proposal?”
“This is the most extra thing ever. Why did I bike all this way just to watch y’all be cute?”
“Getting married without considering our feelings? Now our parents are gonna be on our asses about settling down. Dylan, I can’t believe you’re actually proposing to Sloane!”
Aria covers her mouth, laughing:
“What? Buy out Matthews Corp as a wedding gift? LMAO Sloane, your friends are hilarious! I haven’t heard a joke this good in forever!”
But nobody gives a shit about Aria. My crew circles me and Dylan chanting: “Say yes! Say yes! Say yes!”
I look at Dylan, face burning, and nod.

Chapter 5
Dylan smirks and gets up, sliding a ring from his pinky onto my finger: “Grandma’s ring-saved it for my future wife. You’re officially Mrs. Montgomery now. Pleasure doing business with you, babe.”
Aria’s face goes nuclear: “Sloane, this whole charade is embarrassing! Did you seriously hire some actor to play rich boy? Real billionaires don’t bike to proposals!”
“You’ve been binge-watching too much Netflix. This isn’t some rom-com, honey. Touch grass.”
Her minions pile on: “Ethan, homeboy thinks he’s gonna buy your dad’s company! You shaking? LMFAO!”
One of my boys snorts: “Dylan buying out Matthews Corp? Bro, that’s Tuesday for any of us.”
“These people really think they’re somebody?”
“Yo, isn’t that the Lee kid from that construction company? Does daddy know you’re out here being a whole ass simp?
And Choi boy over there-heard your trust fund comes with training wheels ’cause you’re financially irresponsible. Yikes.”
Ethan’s people are connecting dots: “Wait, how do they know our business? Who the hell are these guys?”
“Did someone just say Dylan Montgomery? Not THE Montgomery, right?”
“Nah, no shot. Montgomery Industries’ golden boy wouldn’t propose to some basic chick. Man’s got standards.”
“Hold up-dude in the white shirt deadass looks like heir to Harrison Enterprises. Swear I saw him on Bloomberg yesterday.”
“Why would every trust fund baby in NYC be at this random wedding?”
My crew’s ignoring the peasants, just roasting us:
“So when’s the real wedding? City Hall’s open, just saying!”
