Skipped At The Altar, Taken By His Uncle novel Chapter 118

When Emily woke up, her eyes were red and swollen.

It wasn’t until breakfast that Carter noticed something was off. “What’s wrong with your eyes?”

Emily shook her head. “Nothing. Maybe I just have a stye.”

“Carter, you’ve been swamped lately, and we haven’t even had time for a honeymoon. Why don’t you help me get on a variety show? I can use the chance to hype up my album,” Emily suggested.

The plagiarism scandal had really tanked Emily’s reputation.

Her team scrambled to swap out the album cover and even switched the lead single.

But since she was still a total newbie, this kind of bad press wasn’t a big deal. A few variety show appearances would be enough to clean up her image.

At least, that was what Emily figured.

‘If Carter’s not reliable, I might as well focus on building my own fanbase and pushing my career forward. Emily thought herself.

Carter raised an eyebrow. “Didn’t you just say yesterday you wanted a baby?”

Emily forced a smile. “It’s not a conflict.”

“Alright,” Carter replied.

Something this small, Carter wouldn’t say no.

I’m heading to the office. I’ll have my people keep an eye out for any variety show/gigs for you,” he said.

“Thanks, Carter! You’re the best!” Emily chirped.

Flattery like that wasn’t just for women. Men ate it up, too.

After getting put in his place by Whitney, Carter finally regained a bit of his confidence.

Ivan was still riding high from his masterpiece last night.

As soon as Whitney walked into the law firm, she caught Ivan making exaggerated faces at her

Boss in your eye cramping up or something? Whitney teased

Is that any way to talk to your bose Get in my office Ivan shot back

Wintney dropped the joking tone Boss your eye really looks like it’s twitching Maybe you should see a doctor?”

Ivan rubbed his eyelid, totally oblivious 10 don’t les a thing

I called you in ber ause Mr. Harris dropped by the brim yesterday. He pretended it was about taking us out to dinner, but I bet he just wanted to see you Ivan said

Whitney frowned slighty Move your mean Carter

Ivan rolled his eyes. “Yeah, that punk!”

“I got him pretty wasted last night. Bet he felt awful when he got home,” Ivan grinned.

Whitney was silent for a moment.

She hadn’t expected Ivan to go out of his way for her, even if it meant risking the firm’s relationship with a major client

Her lips parted, touched by his gesture.

“Alright, cut it out with the mushy stuff. Seriously, when’s the big day?” Ivan said with a teasing grin.

He narrowed his eyes, smirking. “Don’t tell me you’re passing up your wedding cash?”

Whitney felt a warm rush in her chest. “Next month. Thanks, Boss! I’m definitely cashing in!”

“Boss, you really should ease up on the drinking. You’re forty now, you know. Why not take the afternoon off and see a doctor?” Whitney suggested.

Ivan didn’t take it well. “What’s wrong with being forty? That’s prime time for grinding! Don’t worry, I’ve got it under control.”

At his level, skipping out on business dinners and drinks just wasn’t an option.

All he could do was try to cut back a little.

“Alright, that’s all for now. But during dinner yesterday, Townsend was hinting that our firm might actually join the cast of a variety show,” Ivan said.

Whitney blinked. “Wait, a variety show?”

“Yeah! You know, those workplace reality shows. Ever watched one?” Ivan grinned.

Whitney’s eyes widened. “Boss, does that mean you’ll be a mentor on TV?”

Ivan sighed. “Looks like it. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what Townsend says in a few days.”

Whitney didn’t think much of it.

Friday rolled around, and it was time for dinner at Moore Manor.

Kirin’s GHOST was way too flashy, so Whitney told him to park by the side entrance. She went downstairs a few minutes early just to make sure none of her coworkers saw her sneaking into the car

Klein was chilling in the back seat, sinurking playfully. “Are you that scared your coworkers will spot you?”

“Not really just trying to stay under the radar,” Whitney said

After alt. Wintney was working on Harris Group projects, and if her coworkers saw her, people would probably say she was gething special treatment because of her connections

She didn’t want anyone thinking Ivan’s hard work was just because she had an inside track

She’d worked hard to earn her place tou

“By the way, my mentor. Ivan, has been guiding me some day one He’s always looked out for me, and now that he knows I’m married. he’s been wanting to meet you Whitney explained

She asked carefully. “Would you mind meeting him?”

Emily sat awkwardly to the side, her expression stiff and uneasy

Carter felt like his feet were weighed down with lead each step heavy and slow

““Grandpa, I’m sorry Fin late,” Carter sand

“Alright, go wash up and come sit down.” James replied.

Carter pulled out the chair next to Emily and sat down, leaving three seats between him and Whitney.

Klein quietly set down his chopsticks and glanced over at his nephew. “George, there’s something that’s been bugging me

George’s eyelid twitched. “Uh, Klein, go ahead. What’s up?”

“So. Carter called Whitney at midnight when he was supposed to be sleeping. What was that all about?” Klein/asked.

Carter’s eyes narrowed in shock, couldn’t believe that Klein was actually putting him on the spot with everyone watching.

‘Has he lost his mind?’ Carter freaked out inside.

“Let’s hear it, nephew,” Klein said.

Whitney was stunned. ‘Wait, Carter called me? When did that happen? I thought I blocked his number ages ago!” she wondered.

Emily dug her nails into her palm, her cheeks stinging with shame.

Klein’s words landed like a bomb, making her face burn even hotter.

Carter’s face darkened, and he stayed silent.

James slammed his hand on the table. “Carter, your uncle is talking to you. Didn’t you hear him?”

“It’s nothing, really. She used to handle legal stuff for Starwave Entertainment, so I just had a quick question for her.” Carter mumbled, trying to play it off.

George breathed a subtle sigh of relief. ‘Whew, that answer will do,’ he thought.

But Klein kept pressing, clearly not ready to let Carter off the hook.

“Who is she? Carter, I might let it slide if you disrespect me, but you can’t disrespect your aunt,” Klein said, his tone sharp

George gave Carter a pointed look. “Carter, raise your glass and toast your aunt!”

Carter clenched his fists on his knees, his knuckles cracking under the pressure.

After a long pause, he finally lifted his glass, meeting everyone’s gaze. “Aunt Whit, let me toast you.”

Whitney picked up her tear up her voice cool and distant. Thanks, nephew

That one word nephew made Carter’s eyes redden instantly
