Klein nodded and said, “Yeah, your uncles clearly need their eyes checked. Don’t go picking up their bad habits

Whitney bent down and softly repeated all the words of longing her mother had written in her diary, whispering them right in her grandpa’s ear.
The old man’s shoulders tremkled. /Okay… okay, Diana, my sweet girl. I’m so sorry. It’s all my fault.”
He was so weak that he could only get a few words out at a time
Just to comfort him, Whitney only talked about the happy days, leaving out all the pain her mom had gone through.
“Dad, your granddaughter’s name is Whitney. Next time I’ll bring Whit to see you, okay?” Whitney said softly, still playing the part of her mother.
The old man forced a faint smile and said, “That’s… a good name.”
Whitney gestured for Klein to come in, and he stepped inside.
With a subtle smile, Klein slipped his arm around Whitney’s shoulders. “Sorry I’m late, Dad.”
Her grandpa looked at Whitney’s face, and then at the way his daughter and Klein together, so close and caring. He finally felt at peace.
Finally, he could breathe easy, like a huge weight had been lifted off his chest.
The old man needed plenty of rest, and visiting hours were limited. So after about an hour, they stepped out of the ward together.
Whitney’s heart felt heavier than ever. She knew her grandpa’s time was running out.
Taylor tried to comfort her, “Don’t be sad, Whit. You’ve made his biggest wish come true.”
Whitney said with a bittersweet smile, “I hope so.”
Klein had planned to take Whitney to a hotel, but Taylor insisted they stay at his place, so they ended up in the guest room.
Whitney rested her head in the crook of Klein’s arm. “Klein, am I really that hopeless?” she asked.
‘Will I ever be as unshakable as Klein?’ Whitney wondered.
Klein replied with a smile, “Of course not.”
“If you’re feeling down, just let it out and cry. I’ll be here to wipe your nose for you,” he said, teasing gently.
Whitney didn’t know what to say.
‘He’s such a buzzkill,’ Whitney thought.
Whitney fell silent, lost in thought.
‘Maybe a year isn’t enough. Maybe in five or ten years, I’ll be like Klein, calm and unbothered, not letting these feelings mess with me anymore,’ she told herself.
Klein gently ran his fingers through her hair. ‘Silly girl, I have my own ups and downs too, he thought.
He was not always unshakable, no matter what life threw at him.
Especially when it comes to her, she was the one thing that could always shake him.

Chapter 158-
at before sunrise the next morning, the hospital called. Her grandpa passed away
Whitney dressed in black. Even though she’d tried to prepare herself, it all happened so fast. Her grandpa was gone before she could get to know him better.
The Sherman family had been prepared for this, and everything was taken care of smoothly, just like they’d planned
With two elders passing away one after another, the Shermans couldn’t shake off the gloom for a while.
Inside the memorial hall, Whitney noticed a familiar nasne on one of the bouquets that had been sent. ‘Could it really be a coincidence?’ Whitney wondered.
One of her cousins noticed her standing there, staring at the flowers. “Whit, what’s wrong?” he asked.
Whit shook her head and said, “Oh, it’s nothing.”

Emily did everything she could, and finally, Carter, dazed and barely conscious, ended up in bed with her.
Carter had gotten totally wasted last night. When he woke up, the first thing he saw were the passionate marks all over Emily’s body, love bites and bruises he couldn’t even remember giving her.
Carter rubbed his forehead, a little guilty. “Sorry… Do you want me to get you something for the pain?”
Emily blushed and buried herself in his arms. “Carter, I’m fine. As long as I’m with you, I’d do anything”
